machine shop messed up my rods
I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine for my NA '93 MR2. About 2.5 months ago I took my bottom end (block, crank, rods, new pistons) to the machine shop to have them worked on. After getting the parts back from the machine shop I put them away and didn't get to start to putting the engine together till this week. While inspecting my parts I find that two of my connecting rod caps were mixed up, that is the caps were on the wrong rods
![]() The machine shop reconditioned the rods, which included honing the large end of the rods. Since two of the caps were on the wrong rods there must have been a "step" in the bearing circle where the parting line is cause I can see that they chamfered the edges of the rods and caps at the parting lines on these two rods. Problem is that there is a "step" on the sides of the rods as well were the rods normally rub against the crank as they rotate. I'm pretty pissed about it cause I was wanting to get the bottom end back together ASAP. I'm guessing these rods are now junk, do you think the machine shop will replace them and machine the replacements as well at no cost? I mean they really screwed up here, I thought I had picked a good shop here in town but I guess I was wrong ![]() here's some pics of the empty block as it sits in case anyone is interested: Picasa Web Albums - grjr - 5SFE edit: no pics of the rods as of right now, but I'll probably add some tomorrow or the day after |

I feel u one this one!. It happened to me several times. We should create a background check for this machine shop to get rid of the bad machinist. And the funny part was, I was told "It was like that when you checked u'r item in", And i was like u should have told me before u do anything to it, otherwise i don't have no use for it. i ended up stop using those machine shop in my area, And start dealing with JASPER ENGINE. It's a bit expensive but almost zero aggrevation, and headache.
