Gas gauge stopped working.
For some reason my gas gauge needle decided to stop working out of the no where. I turned the car on and the needle stayed below the E. I tried puttin in some gas to see if it would move, but nothing. i filled up the tank, and still nothing. Does anyone know what the problem might be? and the fix for this? Also my temperature gauge knob to control the hot or cold got jammed somehow. It doesnt slide from cold to hot. i tired putting more force to see if it would loosen but nothing, and i dnt wana end up breakin it. Any idea what happend?

if you check and confirm that all of your wiring and fuses are ok then you most likely have a bad sender in the tank. The fuel gauge itself doesn't normally go bad. Did you remove the gauge cluster at one time? If so, check that you reconnected everything correctly and didn't damage any wires/connectors in the process.

i never removed any of that but the mechanic i bought it from had told me he had taken out the fuel tank to clean it out and then he put it back in. Would that be a reason y its not working?

If he didn't reconnect the sender, then probably.

Before pulling the tank...
Having installed 4-5 gas tanks, I can testify that if a mechanic isn't careful with the wiring when reinstalling the tank into position lots can happen, including pulling the wires out of the connector.
If my Mark 1 setup is anything similar to your 2 series once the console is pulled the connector for the sender can be accessed for testing continuity and proper grounding, both in and out of the tank and into the dash. You will find one set of wires for the fuel pump there also. Short of pulling the tank (BIG FUN) this may give you some insight as to what's happening. As for your temperature control module, pull it out. There are some clips that can break and can be corrected. If you forced it to the point of breaking odds are plastic lever pieces will require replacement, which will be difficult to locate short of replacing the module as a unit. If you see nothing broken look to the servo assembly. Attached are several pictures of what the Mark 1's look like. |

it sorta easier on the mk2, you just have to remove the cd trim to get the ashtray holder off and it just under it
