Hesitated, now won't start...help???
First off, I am still looking for someone in town with the correct scanner to do a diagnostic, so I don't have any code info yet.
The story...the last two days have been cool and rainy, and I've read many stories about how some of these cars seem to hesitate in that weather. So I thought I'll just get thru this, and move on. Well, the hesitating kept getting worse, and finally when pulling away from a light, it just flat out died. No spark at all. We've determined that I am getting fuel to the cylinders...plugs wreak of it, and the smell of gas is evident when turning over. So we started looking at spark. I have none at the distributor. I am going to get an ohm meter on it this morning to check that, but if anyone has any suggestions, or has been thru this before, PLEASE let me know...I really need to have it running again TODAY! TIA... |

It used to happen to my black 91 everytime it rained....It drove me nuts! The car didnt seem to do it when I had the stock intake on it either, But when I put on the aftermarket intake it would seem to take in water. ( didnt relly know if that was a issue) Every time it rained I just hoped I could get to work. lol! I also noticed that there was water getting into the cap and rotor. Im sure there is a gasket in there that gave me some issues with not starting/and or dieing at red lights....as well as going down the freeway @ 65. Ya may want to check the disributor cap seal. It wont run well at all with it wet in there. If I remember correctly that was my issue resolved.

Got it fixed today...ignition coil was cracked! In FOUR places!! I have pics that I'll post tonight, but it's running again on a new coil. It's a bit out of time right now, but I'm getting that done after work.

Just to let you know, there is no real scanner to pull codes on pre OBDII cars. All the Toyota SST is for pulling codes and running diag, is a jumper wire.... If the check engine light was on, I'll bet that you would have gotten a code 14 which is no IGF signal from the ignitor to the ECU....
A simple paper clip jumping E1 and TE1 in the diag plug is all that is needed to for retrieve codes from the ECU... |
