From there, behind your headunit, there are TWO antenna wires. One is for the rear power antenna, one is for the windshield antenna. I think the smaller GM plug is the windshield antenna. Just plug that into your new (or old) headunit (you may need an adapter) and there you go. I bought an adapter which takes the two plugs from the rear antenna and the windshield antenna and combines them into one plug, so I could plug it into an aftermarket HU. Then I just didn't hook up the antenna power wire on the new HU, so the power antenna never tries to do anything. If yours is already hooked up, then just cut the antenna power wire off the HU harness. |

To remove this, you'll remove your windshield wiper arms. Then you'll pry up the 2 bolt covers on each side of the cowl. You'll unscrew the bolts, then you can remove the cowl (be careful, though I've never broke mine I've heard it likes to break). Once the cowl is out. Look and see if you're windshield antenna is hooked up. There should be a stud coming off the firewall, and the windshield antenna hooks up to this. ![]() ![]() On the inside of the car, there should be an antenna wire coming off of or attatched to the other side of the stud (the side inside the car). This wire should connect to the OEM radio using a gm antenna plug, which is a small antenna plug. It's too small to fit into a standard antenna socket/hole. To hook it up to a regular headunit, you'll need a GM antenna adapter. This will convert the small GM antenna plug to a regular sized antenna plug. From there, if you want to hook up both the power antenna and the windshield antenna, get a "Y" antenna adapter. You can plug the power antenna and the windshield antenna/gm adapter plug into the to upper parts of the Y on the "Y" adapter, and then you plug the lower part of the Y adapter into the headunit. |

![]() If you want both hooked up at once at some point, there is a way to do that. You want a 2 female to 1 male plug Y adapter harness. Metra makes this part, it's part # 40 UV43, as shown below. One plug the windshield antenna into the gm female to Motorola male adapter harness, and you plug the male end of that into one of the female plugs on the Y harness. You plug the power antenna into the other female plug, and then plug the male end into the headunit. ![]() |
