Yes. I will love it more when the mod project is done. I even like my wife's automatic.
I don't like the leaky t-tops. |

I own an '87. The second one I've owned actually. Talked to a few folks with '88 SC- they say its not so much to write home about. Above all, I love the MKI. Word is, it ranks as the most desirable MR2 among those who wish to own an MR2. I don't know about that- but I can see the love. My lil' silver Deuce is still in very good condition. It is although, due to age, looking forward to an overhaul very soon. I'm also pondering & taking in as much as I can about a swap. Seems the 1MZ is the path to follow. Anyone know of a shop in the Sacramento area that would like to give me a hand at that project? Well, I'm the new guy to these boards. Thanks for letting chat a bit. Remember- it's alright to live in the fast lane. just make sure you got your high beams on! Late.

Just got a NA. I am not sure what engine though. Yup I am a noob to MR2's. How do I tell? BTW I love the car. It is a 93 and I actually got an automatic too. I have owned over 15 new cars and this is only the second used car I have ever bought. I always liked the looks of the MR2 and needed a daily driver. I am in the process of getting everything restored to new condition. I love it so far. Gets great gas mileage and rocks the morning commute. My RX-8 was costing me about $120 per week in gas. MR2 only about $56. I have already went through the whole "need for speed" phase with plenty of other cars and see no reason to play with my daily driver. I am going to keep it as close to stock as possible performance wise. Not going to turn it into a "body kit" magnet either. I actually like the hard top too. My only complaint is the headliner is grey and the interior is black?? Go figure. I will be changing it to black soon along with the visors and light panel.

I do actually love my n/a... just not as much as my 3sgte.
Going from 91T to 93na, i went from power and mediocre condition to slow and MINT condition. So i gave up one aspect to gain another. Odd story right... lol But lately Im wanting the 3sgte back... (see cars WTT thread I just started lol) |

I believe he means when you're in a turn and on the gas in a rear drive car with strong power, a good size bump can upset the rear end traction forcing it to handle more turning force while dealing with acceleration. If the bump is big enough, the wheels can leave the ground quickly or loss weighted downforce and the rear of the car can land sideways, this can cause a "step-out" or complete spin easily. I'm very cautious driving my bro's 04 gt in curves, cause it will pretty much "walk-out" more so than "stepping-out" over bumps, but our independent susp. helps alot. -this is heightened with low profile tires also. Yeah, I love my mk1 na, very dependable. More power would be great, but I can drive fast without having to worry about things like what I described above and less maintenance too. Love My NA
Bought a '93 NA for my wife back in 1998. Liked it so much I immediately bought another '93, but this one a turbo, fior myself. Six months later, I bought a '93 NSX and sold the turbo. So....speed is relative.
These days the '93 NA is my daily driver--30 mpg is awesome because I drive 30 highway miles (each way) to work every day. It's not the quickest or fastest car out there, but neither was the turbo when compared to something else. But the main thing I really love about my NA is the go-cart handling on the twisty, low-traffic roads out here in New Mexico. And like someone else said, I can drive the c**p out of it and still be close to "legal". I can't even begin to approach the limits of the NSX unless I go to a track. So, for me, the NA delivers much more fun on a day-to-day basis. I love my NA so much I've begun replacing some aging trim parts, installed a new antenna, and am thinking about a paint job and seat reupholstery. All this at 136,000 miles! I can't see ever selling this car; much as I hate to admit it, I CAN see selling the NSX. Anyway, that's my two cents worth. |

I appreciate my NA
I've had six MR2s over the years: a '91 turbo, an '86, and '89SC, an '89 automatic (current), a '91 NA and now a '93 NA.
I opted for the NA over the turbo because I wanted to avoid a highly modified (and perhaps abused) kid-racer and stick with the die hard stock MR2 engine. True, it doesn't have the punch of the turbo, but allowed to rev high, will get the job done quite well on lower octane fuel, with near 30mpg, and no expensive mechanical concerns or cool downs. I did buy a sunroof not t-top version this time because my head hit the roof with the t-tops covered or not. I also found a non-power assist steering edition which makes for a tighter steering feel. I've owned an MGB, a Triumph GT6, and a Opel GT (I'm dating myself here) and the NA w/o PS rides very much like those cars with a more refinement and comfort. Yes, the turbo is the option of choice among the majority of MR2 devotees, but the NA holds its own in every category less 0-60 take offs and faster passing. However, once at speed on the highway, the NA is all MR2 and that ain't bad. LT |

Where are you in New Mexico?
And, coincidently I had two NSXs here-- one black '91 and one yellow '99. I sold them because I live on a drirt road and kept bottoming out. I have since purchased a '99 Carrera which complements my two MR2s. My NSX license plate on the yellow one was NSXNM. I know this sounds strange, but I find the smaller MR2s more fun to drive despite the ego-factor of driving an NSX. The NSX handled so well, it seemed to dull the excitement of cornering because it was so agile, wide, and sophisticated. The Carrera is much tighter and more involving. Yet, on the other had, my little '89 w/o power steering feels alot like a large go-cart. Very nimble and super responsive. LT |

I'm just outside Las Cruces, and have a 1/4 mile dirt road from my house to the street. It takes me ~2 minutes to reach the street because I won't exceed 8-10 mph. But no bottoming out problems. Although I love my NSX, I agree completely with your "fun to drive" remark. Maybe I'm maturing because it always used to be about speeeeeeeeeeeeed! Cliff |
