You guys are too used to big lazy low revving auto engines. I love taking mine right up to the redline at 7,300 every chance I get -it's exactly what it was made for after all.

Mine are both mk1's... N/A and S/C and I love them both! The S/C is definately a good bit "meaner" but the N/A is no slouch either, and sounds and drives absolutely great! I don't think I could see myself ever parting with the N/A car. The S/C would be tough to sell from a performance standpoint... it drives and handles too good to let it get away either. My buddy just got his 92 N/A and after fixing all the little things it needed after 190K miles he's cleared 200K and is in love with the car! My cousin got his 93 N/A over the summer and won't stop talking about it despite the fact that all the rest of us have MR2's as well, lol. I haven't been a big turbo fan, but I haven't owned a turbo car either... not yet anyway. When I go mk2 shopping down the road I'm honestly not sure I care which I get as long as I find a good car that has been well taken care of. One can always make whatever motor is in it a bit faster anyway if needed .

You have a BEAMS which is much different than the 5SFE, and I have a del sol that doesn't run 4k at 80mph on the highway which is why I am complaining about my MR2.

Revving to 7k is fine. Listening to a monotonous 4000rpm for 2 hours isn't so hot, not to mention the extra fuel it uses. I bet the MR2 would get another 5mpg on the highway if it cruised at 2500-3000rpm.

Well . . . you could always slow down to change the tone!

Actually, when I picked mine up, I drove it for abut 6 hours the first day, and 3 hours the second to get it home. It didn't really bother me, but that was probably b/c I was white-knuckling the car to keep it on the road the whole time (it had four different tires on it and was out of alignment).

Also, at 65mph, I got about 33mpg! Whereas I get about 26mpg at 75mph.

Then the trip would take much longer, and I hate sitting in a car for that long.

...actually I've done a couple (4 now I think of it) of 8 hour drives in the car with just the odd stop-off for fuel and to stretch my legs for a couple of minutes. Motorway speeds most of the time (or near enough, 70-75mph) and didn't find it a problem, 3 of those trips were done with coilovers fitted, though at medium setting. Maybe it's just me -the only thing I find is my right heel gets tired after about 2 hours straight driving -don't seem to get that in other cars. But apart from that the driving position in the MR2 is much better for me. I love it on long trips, the miles fly by and I love the sound my SARD induction kit makes (it's quite loud). I guess that doesn't suit everyone I guess!

I get about 330miles to a tank full (good 97ron stuff) on a long trip at 60-70mph (ish) which works out summit like 33mpg. Personally I'm not too worried about saving fuel otherwise I wouldn't have bought an MR2, and I don't drive at 50mph on the motorway on long trips to save fuel like I've heard some guys do.

My buddy was playing around with a modded turbo in his 92 N/A last week and whipped the fella up to 70... then the Turbo started to do its thang and the turbo car finally came shooting past (I'd rather have the low end umph personally). My basically stock old N/A 88 will hang with (and pull) a mid 90's NSX no problem on country curvey roads... so I love the N/A cars! I always keep mine in the power band when driving about though... which means I get to enjoy the sound of the engine more !

Something could be wrong then cause I got about 330 mile from a full tank with my 93+ N/A. I've been monitoring my gas consumption for about 2 months now and I usually driving at about 70mph on the highway so it sounds like something could be wrong
