5S-FE Piggyback problems?? You have them?
I remeber reading that lots of people dont use piggybacks on the pre 93 cars because of the TPS?
Is this true? Why is it a problem? Is it because its a switch vs a sensor? Was it [Piggyback] used in a turbo 5s application? Using the TPS? Thanks guys! Im always thinking of solutions for everyone... |

because it gives you two throttle points to adjust.. part throttle/cruise cant be tuned for. not a big deal for racing, because you're probably WOT the whole time anyways.. but its really not utulizing the controller.
a guy rigged a bracket to run a dummy TPS for an safc once.. used the stock one for the computer, and the second real tps only for safc function.. seemed to work ok i guess. i still dont like the idea of tuning full batch fire injection. |

Well besides batch injection (which aint ALL that bad considering i have tuned a VW Rabbit with high duration cams and crazy ported head using batch injeciton)
Using a better piggyback like the SMT6 you use the AFM/MAP/MAF to tune your LOAD cells.... Personally i would NEVER tune my vehicle with a TPS just because it doesnt accuratly display load. At 50% throttle you can be at -10hg or +14psi all without doing anything, meanwhile the ecu is injecting the same fuel for the cell its in. All my S/C V6 setups i have done using the stock ecu have been tuned this way which also makes it easy for the person to even remove the s/c and the ecu will still be tuned, given not perfectly but you get the point. Why wouldnt this method work? Has anyone thought about it? Its what makes sense to me. |

i think safcs have a map reference too, and reads it along with throttle position.. i could be wrong though. i believe that was the problem though, its just one less read parameter.
the fact is that a lot of people dont use piggybacks on 5sfes, period. theres not very many people at all even tinkering past tossing a header on. |

Yea I figured that not many people do much with them but i just wanted to set the record striaght that it is possible to run one...just one that can handle having its load reading from anything not just the Ghey TPS signal...S-AFC being ghey on its own...
