Okay, that just not fair
![]() But hey, it's for a good cause. You can actually go with the advanced configuration and tell it how much processing power to use. Honestly, I run an Intel Centrino Duo and don't even feel it running. |

I'm running between 10-64% load on all 4 cores. I havent tried running while playing a game but I dont suggest it if thats where youre income is youll want all youre processor power you can get for gaming. another noticeable difference is the heat my cpu is never idling now and holds between 38-44degrees up from 28-32 at 0 load

This will use whatever CPU percentage you set it at, but only at idle load. on a 2.8, if you do frequent gaming/high CPU use it would be doubtful you could finish an SMP load at anything less than 100%.

I would say you could use a scheduler to run folding when the computers are not in use. If you need processor power at any time you're not gonna have much fun because as said you need enough power to compute the packets sent.

Exactly! Sooooooo if you use the processor for any other app folding won't be able to process the packet in time, resulting in a bad score and smaller packets. That's why I said it may be better to schedule folding to run when nothing else is running. But you may have a better idea.

What happened to all the folding guys?
Here is a quick SMP and GPU2 update guide. These are the clients I will be using: Windows XP/2003 GPU Console client (6.20) Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008 SMP client console version 6.22 beta2 for MPICH (32-bit or 64-bit) 1. Stop the current client you are updating and backup everything first! 2. Stop the MIPCH2 Service (services.msc) for SMP as well. 3. Install the new program from the above repository into the folder with your work. 3a. I put the GPU client in the Application Data\Folding@home-gpu 4. I've renamed my clients 'fah.exe' and 'fahGPU.exe' just for easier CLI tasking, optional. 5. Run each client using the -configonly switch. 6. Setup each client how you want but make sure to use the following additional parameter is necessary. 6a. SMP: -local -smp -forceasm -verbosity 9 6b. GPU: -verbosity 9 7. Change each service like the following replacing 'Administrator' with the login information you used for installation: ![]() 8. Check your services to make sure they all checkout and try them out. Credit for full service install (5.91) is here |

To be honest I stopped running it because the cost in electricity was killing me! For the first six months of this year I had a backpayment of €240!!! That's $ 370 over in the US. That would equate to paying over $700 a year extra and thats a lot of money that I just don't have spare
![]() Btw: Use a Linux OS over VM. You get way better performance with the Linux 64 bit OS'es :O) |

You need some 80+ PSU's.
I cannot run linux as I only run on my main boxes with XP, I don't have a dedicated folding machine. |
