HTC Touch PDA/Smart Phone
I really want an iPhone, but it's not available in Canadia without running an unlocked/un-upgradeable version on a network that blows goats in my area.
Has anyone played with an HTC Touch extensively? ![]() |

I've played with one a little in the store. The interface isn't nearly as nifty as the iPhone and the interface is really the main thing the iPhone has to offer. Personally I think both phones are bad rice.

I've played with Windows Mobile on Palms before, and I like it better than the Blackberry interface, but the iPhone definitely takes the cake. I just can't have one

I've played with/owned several HTC phones and played with an iPhones. I can honestly say that the iPhone is pretty much a cool gadget...but that's all. You can download an application for a Windows Mobile OS that emulates the iPhone interface. The whole touch and drag is WAY overated, and there is no WiFi on the iPhone either which is standard on just about every HTC.
In the end, I bought a Helio Ocean and got rid of everything else, but I don't know if you guys have Helio in Canada. |

Are the Helio phones GSM? Do you know which OS their smart phones use?

Helio does not work on the GSM network, it actually uses the Sprint PCS network. As far as the OS, it is a proprietary operating system and the custom applications are not availabke as easily for it. However, it does have a lot of capabilities with the built in apps and the ones that are available. I has a viewer for most e-mail attachment files as well as a new exchange server app.

Keep in mind that while Helio uses the Sprint network, it only leases it from Sprint, and has no affiliation with Sprint. Helio is actually owned by Earthlink.

That just means that they can't compete with Sprint on price. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Android looks like.

You mean Sprint can't compete with Helio. I got my plan for $99 per month, and that's with unlimited minutes, data and text. Basically unlimited everything. I use my phone last month over 3500 minutes, and I get at least 100 e-mails per day, and text (picture) messages between my kids and wife and myself. And the price is still $99 + taxes. Don't think Sprint can beat that.

I'm sure they could if they wanted to, but it's just not required for them just yet. Pretty soon all mobile phones will have unlimited plans. With MetroPCS teaming up with Cricket and a couple of other small companies, they are going to pretty soon offer low cost no contract unnlimited plans all across the country. So all the big guys (AT&T, Sprint, Alltel, etc) are going to have to either match it, or lose. |

Any word on when/if Google will release anything?
I don't use my cell a tonne, I just thought it'd be nice to consolidate my iPod and phone into one piece instead of 2 ![]() |
