What would you do?
This is not related to my Mr2...so I put it in here. I'd like to know what you think I should do.
Back at the start of October, I mentioned to a friend a had some parts I was going to list and sell on Honda-Tech. He took interest in 4 Tokico blue shocks + 4 H & R Sport Springs. The shocks were for an Integra/Civic, the springs a Civic. The 2 front shocks where 100% brand new in the box, rears had 5-10K on them. They were in great shape, still compressed and rebounded just like the new ones. The springs hadf about the same mileage and were in great shape. He also took interest in 2 Earl's front Stainless Steel brake lines for an Integra LS. I told him the parts and part #'s, and he wanted them. I was going thinking about listing them for sale for $65 for the lines and the shocks/brakes for $350 on the forums. He balked. I figured I'd cut him a deal, since I'd know him for 5 years and I wouldn't have to ship. I orginally told him helo me with a wire tuck and you can have them, but he said he'd help anyways and "wanted to pay." I wanted $300 for the shocks + springs from him, didn't care so much for the brake lines as they don't take a lot of garage space. He wanted $250, so I threw out a price of $50 for the brake lines so I'd still get my $300. He paid he $200 when I gave them to him, and I was supposed to get the remaining a paycheck or 2 down the road. Fast Forward to yesterday. He says the spring rates were off for his car, so he didn't use the suspension. He put it on, didn't like it, took it off. As for the brake lines, he says the non-ABS and ABS lines have different fittings, so he can't use them/ He "sold the suspension" and bought Omni Power coilovers. As for the brake lines, he wants to give them back. It wouldn't be so bad if he hadn't sold the suspension. I would have returned his $200 he gave me already, and sold them on a forum for $350 plus. I'm pretty sure he sold them fore more than he paid me for them. He wants to give me the remaining $50 for the suspension and give the brake lines back. My wife is pissed and so am I. He sold the suspension (which he could sell for more than he paid), but wants to return the lines. I told him the parts and part numbers, since I was not familiar with his car. I assumed it would all work when he still wanted it. I've been counting on the money, and feel he should pay for the brake lines also, since he kept the suspension (and sold it) after he decided he didn't want it. I'm pretty sure this is the end of our friendship anyways, since it looks like I'm getting blamed (he hasn't returned a call in 3-4 days). Should I let him do what he proposes, pay me the remaining $50 for the suspension and return the brake lines? Or should I tell him he has to keep them and sell them, same as he did my suspension...and I need my $100. Honestly, I'd like to do the latter. My wife wants me to demand the full remaining $100. Her opinion is tough **** to him, he sold the suspension instead of returning it (and likely made a profit), so he can do the same for the brake lines. I would not have taken any less than $300 for the suspension had the brake lines not gone with it. I basically gave him the brake lines free if he paid $300 for everything, just so I could get the suspension out of my garage (needed the space for MR2 parts). So, what would you do in the above situation? |

get your lines back, get your 50 bucks back, and tell him to go crawl in a box and die.
if someones going to screw you, its worth the 50 bucks it cost you to get rid of them. consider it an investment in the quality of your life. |

if you're "friends", can you ask him what he sold the suspension for? Or will he lie?
I agree, get your 50 and cables, consider it a cheap price to know who he is; could have cost you a grand to realize he's a douche. |

on second thought.. thats kind of a crappy situation.
from your original agreement, 50 bucks squares your deal away. hes not ripping you off as thats the price you actually agreed to. you admitted yourself that the lines dont mean much to you, as they dont take up space. you sold him suspension for 250, and hes trying to give you 250 for it.. seems like thats squared away 100% actually, the amount you requested is paid up in full. ive sold stuff to people and straight up told them they can resell it for more. i just didnt want to deal with the hassle of selling crap. time vs money really. on a few occasions they did resell and they did make a profit, and that was all fine. other things ive sold to people and told them flat out its a friends price, and i would be mad if they just turned around to profit.. if you let him know you were hooking him up as a friend.. then yeah, thats messed up. if you just told him a price, you sold it man, what he does with it is his deal.. in that case not taking the lines back would kind of be a dick move on your part since they dont work for him anyway. |

He owes you $100 bucks end of story , he knew what the parts were he could have easily found out before hand if they fit his car or not. This is why you always get the money up front regardless of who it is friend or family.
Send your wife after him , mine would kick his ass ![]() |

IMO, do what's easiest to solve the situation and then quietly cut yr ties.......real friends don't argue over money or put yr friendship to the test over petty things.

I want my $100. IDK, if I have to take the $50 I'm not going to be happy about it.
As muffinman said, I should have been paid in full up front. As Fazed Out said, at least I found it out over $50 and not a grand. mr2greasemonkey, you are correct, after all is said and done, it may be best to cut my ties quietly. Ghost Ridah and muffinman, you've stated what personally what I think. If he had paid me in full up front, he wouldn't be asking for a refund. He'd be selling them off, same as the suspension. I sold him the suspension + brake lines, and dropped them off to him. He gave me $200 now, with a promise of the rest later. Tom'sMR2. I am pretty sure he knew I was hooking him up. Also, I originally quoted him $300 for the suspension. When he didn't want to pay that much, I threw in the lines ($250 for the suspension, $50 for the lines). It was still $300. I don't feel $5250 squares me, since I would NOT have sold the suspension for any less than $300. As I said, I basically threw in the lines to get a deal. If he backs out of the lines, I still want my $300 total. In accounting terms, I was paid on credit. He had $100 left on account to pay me. If I had only given him the suspension at that time, then I wouldn't have sold him the lines yet. In that case, I could see him saying he hasn't received the lines and doesn't want them. However, I dropped him all of it off when I was up in Seattle a month and a half ago. I have to go pick the money or the $50 + lines up when I drive back up there for something in 1 week. If he pays me $50 + lines, it will pay for my gas only, so I'm pissed. What upsets me the most is he sold the suspension. I would have given him his $200 back, taken it all, and sold the suspension for $350-400 and the lines for $50. However, he sells the suspension and wants to give me back the part that can't sell for very much? That's messed up, and that's what pisses me off. I would have taken all of it back for not working out. But when none of it works, and you sell the parts that's worth the most and give the non-expensive part back...that's messed up. That's kind of why I want my $100. My wife would like it too, though she also thinks it easiest to get the $50 + Lines and cut him loose. IDK, my wife is pissed, and she's going up there with me. Ghost Ridah and muffinman, I might have to do what you said...send my wife after him and see what happens. In all honesty though, I don't want $50 + lines. I want all $100; or he can go pay and get my suspension back, I give him the $200 he gave me, and I get it all back. I'd prefer all the money or all the parts back. hes trying to pay you, in 100% full the amount you agreed upon for the parts you sold him. hes trying to give back parts you sold him that wont even work on his car, and you're not taking them back and demanding money.
.. in other words, forcing your friend to buy parts from you that dont even fit his car. .. yet the friend deserves the bat? |

If I sold you something with the intention to help you out as a friend, and you turn around to sell it for more money when you know I could have gotten more money for it, then yes, thats pretty screwed up.
