walk into any big music store and you'll find some OBSCURE music released through fairly large labels. the music absolutely is getting out there. if no label picks it up, people are just producing and marketing themselves these days. the music is absolutely out there, ready for you to buy. theres venues with live shows ready for you to see. people just dont go because people dont like good music. people like commercial crap.

what do you want to hear? its out there. i guarantee it. its out there and it kicks ass, and you can go buy it right now. theres no shortage of good music, theres just a blanketing abundance of bad that covers it.
Well, I want to hear Gangsta Rap. I've always love it. NWA, Ice Cube, Easy-E, Tupac, WC, MC Ren. I've been listing to that since the late 80's whn it came up, when in retrospect I was way to young to here it. I go to the shows when they come to Portland, I've met some of the artists over the years. I do have the few new albums that have come out. For the most part, Ice Cube, WC, and a small handful of others from back in the day still produce it, but it''s pretty dead; and it's all from Private labels like Cube's label. The big time music labels won't put that out. They want to put out crap. It's all private labels that put the little bit left out. Gangsta Rap had a point, it made you think. All the music labels put out now, rap wise, is crap. T.I? Please. 50 Cent? They can take Candy Shop and shove it. It's all pop crap rap. None of it's good. No point, nothing. 100% brainless crap. No thought, no message, just a catchy hook and some bubble gum pop rap lyrics. It's so awful, they made a big deal that TI "wrote his ryhmes on his latest CD." Are you kidding? That's a big deal? All the guys used to write their stuff down. They put thought into it. They didn't just record the first bubble gum crap they spit out in the studio.

I like old school gangsta rap, and that's dead. There's not much new stuff left...sorry to say. It's all fakes like TI, 50 Cent, etc. The new stuff that is coming out is from private labels like Ice Cubes label, where the guys can still spit rhymes the way they want to, where they can still put thought into rhymes and write them out, without getting the music molested by the corporate labels. It's mostly the few old school guys left who put things out here and there. I'm glad they are still around. It's hanging by a thread.

Shimri = fail
If you'd read the whole post, you'd see Shim stated he found it on Yahoo Answers, and just copied and pasted it here...

ive never heard anyone say gangster rap made them think

i like hip hop, and some trip hop, but gangster rap burnt itself out with posers just trying to be hard. you can only make so many songs about drinking 40oz's in the hood and slapping hoes. it was the equivalent of death metal, its just too cheesy and no one took it seriously after a while.

I tend to think we look at past decades with a bit of rosey colored glasses. We can name the bad bands now, but I bet we can only name a few of the bad bands of the 70's by comparison.

Plus, you have to account for the population growth... more ppl, more chances to have musicians/bands/albums.

But to negate all of what I just said, yeah music was better. Record labels=devil.

And once Mars Volta lost it, I picked up Muse. Pretty happy with that so far.

There's tons of brilliant music out today, possibly more than there ever has been in the past. There's also tons of horrifyingly terrible music out today. It's all in where you look. They play a little good music here and there on the radio, but most of it is crap. We've just reached a point in our society where anybody with a used $100 computer and a microphone can record an album.

Then they aren't hearing the music, they only bob their head to the beat; or they just hear angry words and nothing more. Listen to Tupac, hear the lyrics. Not that crap his mom put out after his death...his stuff...from when he was alive. If you can't hear the depth in "Brenda's got a baby," if that doesn't make you think and contemplate...then you need to listen to it again.

There's more to it than 40's and booz. Most people never hear it though. All the fake ass rappers only rap about that crap because they didn't have the skill to write anything else. It's that mentality that's polluting the airwaves with crap today. That's why it burnt out. Fakes like 50 cent trying to pretend with some garage rap about a metaphorical candy shop.

I'll stick to my listening to my Tupac, Ice Cube, and the like. They knew how to rap. Today's rappers are a joke.

i have a bunch of tupac cds.. hes alright, its still very cliche 90's west coast rap though.. he had talent.. i just think basically everyone in rhymsayers has a boatload more and produces drastically more original content. ive never heard any rap album with the content that the last two atmosphere albums had. aesop rock produces some great stuff too, both are "todays" rappers and really get no radio play. theres a ton more too.

50 cent makes me want to gouge my eyes out though i dont know how people can stomach that garbage.

Ways to find good music.
1.Turn off the pop station and find a station you never listened to before.
2.Don't listen to anyone listed in the tabloids.
3.Go to a real music store and for god sakes stay away from Britney Spears.
4.If the lyrics repeat themselves throughout the whole song, its no bueno.
5.If it sounds like someone played the entire music track off a previously recorded song and is not doing a cover.
6.If you can't conceive the idea of that person actually writing that song about something they can relate to.
7.Any artist that absolutely depends on a voice modulator and every album sounds different.
8. If every artist on that label sounds the same they've had a voice over.
9. If they've never had a live concert.
10. Finally, if a toddler can memorize the lyrics and sing them in public its not good music.

That last on I heard a kid at wendys or something singing the lyrics to Jay-z. I was thoroughly disgusted because he was singing to his total milf mom and she was all about it.

soldier boi? WAT? dumbest crap ive ever heard.

good music exists, its just hidden under what the teenie bopper hannah montana leghumpers request constantly on the radio, which the station plays to get more listeners, to get more money. labels pick up one hit wonders and dump them because they have no style of their own so as soon as its found out that they have no other decent material they drop them because they will no longer make the label a profit.

i did a search on google to prove this unoriginality easily seen in today's "rap" artists. all these "rappers" have stage names starting with "lil". seriously. get a life.

Lil' 1/2 Dead
Lil Boosie
Lil' Bow Wow (today only Bow Wow)
Lil' Brotha
Lil' Caesar
Lil' Cease
Lil Chris
Lil Cuete
Lil' Flip
Lil' Fizz
Lil' Jon
Lil' Keke
Lil' Kim
Lil' Mama
Lil' Mo
Lil Rob
Lil' Romeo
Lil' Scrappy
Lil Wyte
Lil' Zane

names taken from
How many rappers can you name that have stage names starting with ' Lil '? - Yahoo!7 Answers

when we stop looking for the money in the music and start listening to the true creativity involved our music industry will turn around. whether you listen to pink floyd, green day, mars volta, senses fail, tool whatever. eventually the crap would weed itself out and the art would come through.
