Yesterday, a creature found its way onto my porch.
Yesterday I woke up and went to work on my car around 10am. When I went outside there was a doggy sitting on my porch. I said, "Hello Dog." and went on my business.
I finished and went back inside, without another thought of the creature. It was raining outside so I figured she was lost and since my house is the only one on the block with a patio, she was using it to get out of the rain. 3pm crawled by and it was time to deliver my baby sister to her dance classes, so as I was leaving said animal was still sitting on my porch. I said, "You're still here, creature." and went about, hoping that she'd get my hint. That being, "Be gone when I return." 4pmish I came back home and the canine was still sitting on my porch. Realizing she probably hadn't eaten all day, I said to her, "Listen creature, it's obvious you don't belong to me. But you very well can't just sit here all day long. You need food, water and shelter. I'll give you all three for a few days, but then we will be going to the pound with you." I took her silence as a sign of agreement. So I took her in and did the rest of my errands for the day. She was dirty and smelly, so I gave her a bath. Afterwards her coat was shiny and new again. I bought her some food and gave it to her. She enjoyed that as well. She's already been house trained and already knows a bunch of tricks. She obviously belongs to someone, but I do not know who. I will put up a few signs tomorrow and see who claims her. She will be gone by friday, though. |

Maybe its a hitdog sent to take you out. It looks like a trained killer
![]() I'm guessing she didn't have a collar to track the owners. |

That looks EXACTLY like my wife's Black Lab/German Sheppard. Except it's not. Man, I love that dog. So smart.
So, if no one claims her, are you going to keep her or take her to a shelter? If she's as smart as her dog I vote keep. This is a little off topic, but I'm in iowa and her cousin has an Hungarian Vizsla, if you've ever seen one. Beautiful dog. I want one now. Last edited by shimric; 11-27-2008 at 11:01 PM. |

I've been pleasantly surprised at how smart she is.
She can fetch, she sits, rolls over, heels, shakes, stays and generally is pretty smart. She wipes her paws before entering the house (weird) and digs a hole and covers her poop in the backyard when she's done. I left the door to the backyard open just a tiny bit and she knew to push it open with her nose. But yeah, she's not mine. She doesn't belong to me and it'd be very impractical for me to keep her. |

If you don't find the owner, guess what Sirc, the dog is yours.
Don't be a douche. If you don't find the owner keep the dog. |

Then find a home for it. You take it to the pound, and it has a DECENT chance of getting adopted, but if it isnt adopted they will euthanize it. And they wont tell you the outcome later on, like a month later, you can call and ask if the dog was adopted.
That looks like a really cool dog too. Labs are awesome. |
