he's not kidding- do a forum search for "dead video card" and look through that for a link to "cooking" dead video cards from ocforums.com

![]() I know about the trick. You don't put it in the oven though, you wrap it in a towel and turn it on for 10 minutes. It's a quick temp fix, but I'm just going to send it back to micro**** and have them fix it, my 3 years isn't up yet dammit! My brother still has our n64 and the snes. They both work like they did when they were new. Want to know something pathetic about the 360. For 3 years it's been in the exact same spot, standing vertical. This morning I decide to clean off my desk and rearrange, so I decide to lay the xbox flat and put my monitor ontop of it. Well that's when it decided it could go no longer. ****ty solder. i can't say i'd recoment putting a monitor on it haha. but at least microfail is holding to you with replacing it. i'd be a bit pissed because there are people with nes/atari/sega's that still work fine. it seems new stuff is made to fail. pretty wasteful imho

Want a cookie? I'll have you know my xbox has been sitting in the open since day one. It's the luck of the draw. I was sure mine would last forever seeing as how it's been kicking for 3 years, I had a friend who's had 3 of them so far.

The real problem here is that MS and Sony were competing really, really hard about these new consoles, trying to steal each others thunder. They had to have the bigger numbers, they had to have the fancier features- and in the end, because of that, they both lost.
all of the big and powerful consoles are released at "low" price points for performance when compared to PCs, and it's really taken the thunder away from pc gaming- but in order for them to release fully functional computers with high end graphics (better than whats available on said computers at the time) they have to take todays technology and run it harder, and faster- which essentially kills its reliability. Sure you can just add more "cores", but that means more heat, and lets face it- if you put two of something in a box, you just doubled the chance that one will fail. Do more with more, more more more. This is why nintendos units aren't failing left and right... they simply dont give a **** what everyone else is doing. They make a device that people will enjoy, and instead of worrying about its gigaflops, they worry about its ease of use. Personally I love my ps2- but it's failed more times than any computer I've ever owned. it's currently a conglomeration of parts from no less than four different units. I dont even put the cover back on anymore. And I don't want to buy a newer, less reliable unit. Hopefully the next wave of consoles from MS and Sony will have learned *any* lesson about this whole mess, and at the very least make them more reliable. |

What they need to do for the next generation is water cool the bastards; but I can see how MS and Sony could **** that up.

Exactly. If this world wasn't full of stupid ****s, I'm sure they could fill a radiator every so often. Without a doubt it would be a great solution to the 360's insane heat pumping issue, but it comes with complications. Much like every solution for a problem.

You have to flush and check the coolant system for leaks every so often. In all actuality MS just messed up the solder connections much like nVidia's fiasco.

in the end it doesn't really matter as they both lost. i worked at best buy 2 years ago and we had grips and grips of ps3's, a few xbox's and wii's never sat on the shelf for more then a few hours. |
