Just use blue painters tape to put the number on it. Magic markers are harder to scrub off.

My buddy wants to go to Tijuana, but I'd be afraid my...err..
car might get boosted down there.

Grandpa, I feel like an old man too- but the first time I ever left new england (in my life) was flying out to nevada to buy a red '85 mr2 (older than I am) 5 speed that's been off the road for a few years after a head rebuild (read:unknown condition) with a girl who I didnt trust. Oh, and I didn't know how to drive stick.

Granted the car leaked some oil, the girl flipped her **** and abandoned me half way, the oil killed the alternator (on a three day weekend), and the trip overall cost me about a grand more than I was expecting, and took an extra 5 days... and I hate the color red.... but ****. Why get all nervous about it? Enjoy your new toy, and take comfort in knowing that your trip wont be as long, painful, or as expensive as mine was...

Ya never know what'll come up when you hit the road.
When I went on the road ~'82 I was fearless.
Hitchhiked from Tucson to LA, up to Oregon.
Hell I road a bike around Australia for 3 months in '86.
After the money ran out, sold it and hitched around for awhile.
Good times.
