About having too many cars......

With 2ea 20 year old SC cars on the road a backup car is mandatory for daily driving.

OK, face palm....bad rear wheel bearings, w/ ruined hubs. This was discovered when getting an alignment to remedy a slight pull to the right.
supposedly they were replaced not all that long ago, so it's a mystery how they got ruined so fast.
maybe not fully pressed together when assembled ???
parts are coming in this am. tires down to the wear bars.
pre- travel repairs adding up fast. haven't actually bought it yet.
seller going half on repairs. I'm not a real hard bargainer i guess...

Well, it hasn't been the trip I imagined it would be, but we're making it ok.
My navigater failed right off the bat, and instead of angling up towards Vegas and the Grand Canyon, we ended up in the arizona desert on interstate 8. Then I dropped my phone while looking at the map in the headlights, turned around 10 mi down the road to go back and try to find the phone. had to go thru border patrol check point, both of us pissed off to the max at each other.....got back to where we were, my friend called my number so we could locate it. We're running around in circles hearing it, but not finding it. turns out I had put it in my pocket. that's what happens when you're fatigued /short on sleep. get stoopid/ make bad decisions. So we went to a small town and found a bar. My buddy got drunk while I tried to cool down. I went to the only **** hole motel in town and booked us a room. Went back to the bar and hung out till they cut my friend off.
Now this is just the "bare bones " account, mind you. I could write a whole damn book about this week long trip. Got to the motel, got into a fight....not quite a knock down drag out (cause I'm a ***** and my buddy could kick my ass from here to next thursday...) but we dredged up some old ****e from 25+ yrs. ago...anyway, next day we packed up, plotted a new route, and headed up towards Sedona and eventually got onto a kick ass mtn road which started to lighten my mood a bit. Then it was Rt 10, 500 miles / sleep/ 600 miles/ sleep 740 miles, and here we are between Indianapolis and dayton at a comfort inn, drinking some beers/ and buds again. Car isn't quite wat it was represented as, but it does run good, no leaks, and the body is rust free. So, life is good.

Nope, was too busy in san diego (that's where the car actually was- i was being secretive) then too pissed off to stage any vidio, then just got on with it on the boring interstates....sorry. I did take one short vid from the mountain road looking towards Sedona. I know...FAIL !

You like them white mk1's. Haha I wish that car was closer to me I woulda had it a long time ago when that ad first went up. Must be nice to have the time to fly across the country and drive all the way back.

Well to tell the truth, my '88 is alot nicer, even w/ the rust issues.
I had thought that the cali car would become my primary, but
since it's not all original (was n/a , not so good job on mods done, crappy pebble finish paint job) and various details are not right, it will probably end up being sacrificed for my parts car. those rust free panels are valuable. the engine is strong.
Still up in the air. little road weary tonight...

Wow, I thought about buying that too because it seemed to be in good condition. Sorry to hear it wasn't up to your standards once you got out there
