Russel brand BS brake lines

I bought a set off Ebay for about $80. They were drop shipped from the factory which meant that shipping wasn't very fast. Russel is evidently a subsidiary of Edelbrock. And we all know Edelbrock makes really good parts.

The Russel braided steel brakes lines fit well enough hydraulically speaking. The toyota OEM clips needed to secure the brake line on the fender wells and stuts DID NOT FIT AT ALL!! And Russel did not include any clips with the lines!

I had to third world engineer the brake lines secure. I hate doing less than professional level work, but maybe later I can scour a junkyard for clips that fit.

Overall, the price was good, but the fitment was 4th class.

Thanks for the review on those. From your research, do you know if any other sets come with the clip?

I think a properly manufactured set would accept the OEM clips.

And yes, the phrase "third world engineered" is just me trying to be PC. Just another of my many, many, failures.

I have a set of Russel SS lines that I bought from Summit Racing, ~100 shipped. They came extremely quick and everything was included in the kit.

4 SS brake lines; 8 washers for where the lines bolt to your calipers; 6 clips to hold the lines to the struts and front fender; and the rear lines have their own brackets that simply bolt to the rear fender wall like the stock lines.

For the front brake lines I had to use the stock C washer in conjunction with the russell U clips to secure the line to the fender well. If I just used the U clips that came with the kit, its too loose and rattles.

The rears fit just like OEM and its a piece of cake.

I just installed a set of Russell SS brake lines on my 89 NA, and what a PITA that was. I bought them from Summit Racing and they had to order them from the factory. PN688000, they arrived with 4 brake lines and 8 aluminum washers to seal the banjo connectors. Waited 4 weeks and then the kit didn't come with hardware to install, and the OEM hardware didn't fit!

I called Summit and talked to Graham who told me that none of the brake line kits came with any hardware, that people wire tie them or use bailing wire. When I asked him if he would use bailing wire on his car he just restated the wire tie line.

Then I called Russell, and spoke to Art who actually works for Edelbrock and he said he would contact the guys at Russell and try to find out what was going on. Eventually he shipped me (by regular mail) 4 outer 1/2" circlips.

Ok, he tried, but the Russell kit not only didn't include all the necessary hardware, but the guy at Summit was a JERK!

Just like MR.Fixer I had to spend all day third world engineering the installation so I would be satisfied with the installation.

I wouldn't recommend the Russel SS brake lines for the MKI because they were not engineered for this car, (don't have the locking U clip on the banjo bolt for one thing) and the brake line supports are another.

Can't say how they will perform yet, but for $100 to the door I'm thinking they should live up to their advertising and come with everything to make the install as neat as the original equipment!

Very disappointed with Summit Racing's customer service - Graham!
