Carolina Motorsports Park recap
went to the NASA event there this past weekend (Feb 10-11)
Saturday: found out that drift-linking turn 4 and turn 5/6/7 is not the fast way, nor the best way to stay on track.... had to force the car off to avoid spinning in front of a swarm of Miate. Got my laptime down to a 2:03.141, improved but still not as low as I wanted... Sunday: found another spot that isn't faster to drift... as my cornerworking friend Mike will attest to... 30* slip angle most of the way around turn 12 killed one of my attempts to best my morning session's 2:01.720. I also found that cars like mine prefer to have at least a little bit of gas in them.... and that a splash-n-go lap takes alot longer when you don't have a pit crew and instead have to drive down the street to a gas station. But all and all I think a 8:55.714 lap with that considered isn't too bad ![]() trackmap for turn #s: ![]() |

That looks like a fun track! Great for an NA MR2. Is there much elevation change?
You guys can refuel in the hot pit? We don't allow that in the Midwest for any class. Don't usually have the fire equipment necessary to deal with that yet. You find that drifting is ever the fastest way through a corner? I've been putting my emphasis on being as smooth as possible. I need to learn where I can push harder though. My buddy Mike, the Midwest T&S guy, is pretty consistently a second or so faster than I am in his NA MR2. |

the track is about an hour Northeast of Columbia off of I-20
pretty crazy flat, no real elevation changes of note... maybe 15-20' total I'm trying to be smooth, but a little bit too much trail brake here, too hot there, etc causes slides in these cars ![]() |

Well of course
too much trail brake will do that in any car, unless you come in too hot and it makes the car understeer. ![]() How do you have the balance of your car set up? I like to have mine set mostly neutral with a hint of oversteer dialed in. That looks like it's very similar to Mid-America Motorplex in IA in technicality. MAM is also a platter. ![]() |

I've got it dialed in perfect for my style:
-3.1* front camber, 0.10* toe out -1.9* rear camber, 0.60* toe in if I do something wrong it tends towards oversteer, which I like... but generally it 4 wheel drifts at the limit |
