What Brake Pads?

I still drive my car on the street quite often, but autocross a lot and also do the occasional tack day. I'm in need of rear pads right now, what brand and compound should I get? Considering Carbotech XP6 or Bobcats.

with the Turbo for a trackday I'd go with at least XP8s. They should be fine on street and autox too

I DD on mine because I'm too lazy to swap pads 2-4 times a month, they squeak some when cold and are a tad dusty... nothing else would go on my car though (well, maybe XP10s, or some BHP if they get off thier asses with fitments for our cars)

Porterfield R4-S hold up well on the track, as well as feel OK for DD.

I'd be reluctant to say R4S just because I did start pushing them too hard with just my NA... did take ~40 hrs of experience, r-comps, and hot summer days to do it though

They will be better for the autox and street situations, no doubt about that

Can I just replace the rears with the XP8s or should I do all 4 at the same time?

You do NOT want to mix compounds with the XP-8. They will be a lot more aggressive than the other set of pads which will totally screw up your braking dynamics. I know it hurts but bite the bullet man. You'll be glad you did.

I agree with Ken. Skip the R4s for road course stuff, they're okay but they just aren't quite up to the job. Carbotech pads are completely masochistic, the harder you are on them the better they work and they'll be there every single time you hit the brakes. Not having that confidence is not fun on track, especially if it means you might hit a wall or tree or ....

I'm surprised to hear people saying the R4-S aren't up to road courses. How long are you out there before you see them fade ? I've done track days in 90+ degree heat and R comp tires and have really hit the braking points hard and never noticed any fade. That is with all stock 93T brakes with Motul RBF-600 fluid and fresh bleeding before the events. Now that is with 20-30 minute sessions max. Are you guys out there longer ?

91NA Brakes + R4S + 205/225 Hoosier As - 11/10ths Time Trial laps - on hot lap lap #2 and beyond they don't "fade", but I've gotta pull my brake points back 25-50 feet. With XP8s, don't have to change a thing, on the 2nd hard lap I can almost go 5-10 feet deeper...

R4S = good enough for most people doing lapping / general DE at <120whp for NA brakes, <190whp for turbo brakes
XP8 = plenty of pad for 11/10ths competition and/or more modified cars with higher straightaway speeds

Does anyone have any experience with EBC Yellow or Axxis Ultimates?

I'm looking for pads that can do street and track duty.

I like Bendix Ultimates. They are dusty and a bit noisy though. For road use they can be a bit weak cold but are awesome when warmed up and can take a thrashing.

All depends on driving style.
