want to be in GRM?

I am having to give up my spot in GRM's Track Car Challenge at Buttonwillow on June 7th-8th

If you want to be in GRM, have a trackable MR2 and enough experience to earn a NASA Time Trial license PM me with your email address and such and I'll get you in touch with the GRM guys

That sounds incredibly fun. Somehow, I don't think I could quite go from DE-2 to TT license in ~30 days though. Maybe next year

or <2 weeks - yikes

short notice I know, but my funds just didn't come together and push came to shove - I had to either be in or out today so I had to choose out

What does it take to get everything needed to do this? And where is Buttonwillow? I just finished my second track day (Time Attack) and I'm hooked!

Buttonwillow Raceway Park - Trackpedia

off I-5 near Bakersfield, CA (between LA and San Fransisco)

just 2 days is likely not enough - NASA runs their Time Trial groups like a true race group qualifying (open passing - no point bys - better have good traffic awareness) so its a big step up in intensity from your everyday track day session

the easiest way I can explain this is what I had happen in my 3rd TT day with NASA - 997 GT3 Cup car passed me with 90+mph closing speed 2" off my mirror. I knew he was coming, but your average joe with 3 trackdays just doesn't have the 360* awareness built up enough yet. Later that same weekend I had already turned in and committed for treacherous T12 at Road Atlanta and had this 944 guy decide he wasn't waiting until the straight to pass and he dove underneath me... had to adjust and scrub speed to stay out of the wall and on track - yikes. I didn't like his pass, but it was perfectly within the rules of the group...

Yeah, I'm not ready for traffic and open passing. Still need to get used to using my mirrors while trying to concentrate on what I'm doing as well. Lot of stuff to work on. Just sticking to HDPEs and TAs right now, especially in a street car.
