Time Attack MR2
Well there isnt much in the road racing section so I guess i'll see if I can get something going. Most of this stuff has probably already been covered but I figured this section needed some livelyhood.
![]() I just bought a 91 NA mr2 which I'm going to use primarily for the track. Still debating whether to gut her out all the way. The motor is probably going to be the last thing that I focus on. Its not running right now as it is so I'm going to get everything else up to date while she's being torn apart. If any of you guys are track day regulars and have some key points to hit up please let me know. Right now the only things that I'm pretty solid on are... 1) EMS- Going with a Haltech Platinum EMS 2) Suspension- KW V3 coilovers, Prothane Urathane bushing kit 3) Motor- 3SGTE swap 4) Brakes- Stop Tech BBK 5) Roll cage- Autopower 6) Interior- Sparco seats, harnesses, steering wheel |

If I were you I'd go with the 93+ upgraded turbo brakes, a set of nice rotors/pads, and SS lines. This setup has been proven to perform extremely well against aftermarket setups. It will save you alot of money you can apply elsewhere.

The turbo brakes, especially the 93+, are excellent. Try them with some track capable pads and fluid; I've run the Carbotech XP8s, and have yet to really find their limits. |

for a near stock 3SGTE you won't need the extra weight of the Willwoods or whatever - may need some ducting once you get a bit more power underneath you though.
I would also recommend looking at having a cage done from scratch by a reputable fabricator, especially if you're on the taller (5'8"+) side. Will be easier to get the correct fit for yourself that way I think the kit in my '94 is an Autopower and it does leave a bit to be desired in areas... |

If you put turbo brakes on without also putting the prop valve from the turbo on you will have pretty strong front bias. I've got turbo brakes on mine with Carbotech XP-8 pads and I'd put that against a BBK any day of the week. Rotors are a heck of a lot cheaper with stock calipers also, blanks can be found for ~$20 each.

If you're running anything similar to what NASA does for time trials, 20 minute sessions, then as long as you have excellent pads you will be fine with the turbo calipers. I love carbotech for road course. They're expensive as hell but well worth the money. The harder you abuse them the better they perform almost all the way down to the backing plates.
