Road Racing NA update #1
updates:
![]() ![]() ready for logbook inspection & races #1-4 at the end of the month with NASA-TX at Motorsports Ranch Houston ![]() I'm in the process of swapping over to a better seat and quick-release wheel, but they're both more convinence items than anything. Will post pics when thats done, I'd already have 'em done if the Lowes in town had any metric bolts in the right size to pull off the old wheel ![]() glass, window mechanisms, etc will get tossed when I rework the entire cage later on. I also will need to find covered storage for it at that point as well or some other solution to keep the weather out, ugh. For really important races (ie Nationals) I can unbolt most of that weight so its not *that* big a deal for now... really just want the space later on for even beefier & safer door bars is all, but this works for now. the switch was an idea I copied from a guy over on RoadRaceAutoX - Powered by vBulletin - though his was a bit more elegant, its the same general idea. When the window is down (ie on track) the switch is pretty visible, and its the same opening that the fire extinguisher is accessible from, so its a one stop deal for the corner worker should it ever actually be used in an emergency situation. All of that work above was done last week by Lucas Racing here in Houston - pretty cool shop, great people to work with, reasonable prices and very speedy and top-notch service. (/plug) |

You should post some more pics, and what do you got in it?

circa 1997 when it was turned from a street car to a race car - competed in SCCA's Showroom Stock division and was at the championships for the class:
![]() as it was when I bought it from Bryan Hill: ![]() bone stock engine for now: ![]() most of the "speed" I will be picking up will be from suspension, though I hope to hit around ~135whp/145ftlbs with the allowed engine modifications when I start down that road (ie preparing for SCCA Improved Touring division). That will put me close to the other common cars I'll be racing against (CRX, Civic, Sentra, Miata, etc) right now I'm preparing for NASA's Performance Touring "F" class, which with an MR2 means pretty limited modifications (tires, suspension, and catback are my plans right now). The upsides of racing a car this slow in a straight line are very low operating costs - which means more seat-time to get experience and I'm racing against cars that have similar performance so it ends up being pretty damn fun ![]() |
