OEM big brake project
*UPDATE*
This project is now under Sea2Sky-tuning and will be retailed by him. I'm still going to develop it but with weasy help ![]() Also the 12.7" extension is no longer in production, there will be one but im lacking funds to buy any more calipers OEM Bracket Project Outline: A Bracket adapter to use lexus/Toyota calipers which uses larger rotor disk and retain the use of that calipers pads and rotors (supra n/a). 2piston calipers (*confirmed) Supra4 NA* GS300 93-97 SC300 99-00 SC400 92-00 LS400 93-94* Im still looking for a compatible dust shield to use but im guessing most of you will remove that. now that out of the way heres a peek how it will mount. it's rather confusing but follow the letter pairing. ![]() 1 14.18mm 0.558" Supra NA to TT 2 35.50mm 1.280" Mr2T91 to Supra TT 3 24.00mm 0.945" Mr2T93 to Supra TT 4 09.82mm 0.387" Mr2T93 to Supra NA 5 18.32mm 0.721" Mr2T91 to Supra NA 6 08.50mm 0.335" MR2T91 to Mr2T93 OEM A to B 11.6" (B axis series) B to C B to D 12.7" (A axis series Discontinued) A to E A to F Omit (detached experimental series) I to G H to J Last edited by Oteck; 11-26-2007 at 12:28 PM. |

Im also working on a rear upgrade but i doubt anyone other than me will be crazy enough to do it, has alot of parts requirment. I don't leave anything out specialy the handbrake since i plan to upgrade it, the mr2 piston push style is weak like a girl compared to what i have in store hehe
![]() here a mock comparison on 17" rims ![]() ![]() Now i will detail how this will work in our cars. In order to keep the caliper/rotor distance. the Brake caliper bracket will need to be milled. The mr2 brakets are skinny as hell (10mm vs 22mm) see image bellow ![]() Left is the 93T and on the right is the IS300. the extra width on the bracket works as a spacer, if left alone, this will force you to space the rotor and wheel atleast 12mm, which is why you need to mill one end of the bracket ![]() you can see abit of difference with the pad size, and on the right side caliper(is300) the LEFT bracket (shortest) needs to be milled exactly 12mm. This will re-align it perfectly with the rotor to avoid the use of spacers. Coincidentaly the MR2 HUB is 12mm thick so it will be flat on it's back perfect for the adapter to sit on *issue for conern* though some of you may fear that milling the bracket will weaken it, fear not. these are made of iron and heck the mr2 got away with it being so skinny. ![]() Here is the top view how it will sandwitch. I would be up for either kit. Probably the 11" because it'll be done first.

my only concern about using the LS400 or supra rotors is the weight. the supra rotors are almost 20lbs per corner..
any chance of using wilwood 12.19x1.25 rotors with the aluminum hats they use on the RSX? they use the same offset as our front rotors and almost the same center hole and would shave about 5lbs off each corner instead of adding almost 10lbs... |

it's possible to use that but whats the actual thickness, the stock caliper is only 1.1" (32mm) max. I can predict the mounting but that would be one-off kind of deal. I've seen 2 piece rotor fail before so im rather skeptical about them, got to watch out for the hat design.
also i learned something today 4140 is a type of chromoly lol. im not sure about it's corrosive nature but if it's as bad as any steel i'll likely have them powdercoated (black). Theres no choices on this one since you won't even see the bracket when its installed |

good point.
you could also consider nickel plating them. incidentally if you wanted to go even bigger in diameter, teh 05+ STi rotors are like 13,2" diameter. though i think the 11.6" rotors would be more than enough for pretty much any car- track or street- with the proper pads and fluid. the big advantage of the supra rotors is the fact that they're one of the only OEM directional vane rotors on the market.. |

I sent a cad file for quote for the first prototype hopefuly it won't cost me any internal organs.
Also i've revisited the idea of mounting the calipers without milling/modifying them. This will allow the use of either ls400 or the supra TT calipers but this will put a 12mm spacer behind the disk rotor. this will cost more to build as it has more parts Tri-Mount 2 step bracket (2) 12mm non-hubcentric spacer (2) extended wheel studs (10) hub centric ring expansion (2) |

look into es300 brakes. I pulled the calipers off of my donor lexus for future test fitting. They are twin piston and look like the rotors are at least as big as the turbo ones.

i wouldn't even use those, they use the same size as the 93t.

so, if they are the same as the mr2T are the mounting tabs the same? I honestly think that those are plenty for me, plus they are already paid for

no what i mean is they use the same size rotors, they still mount differently. I looked at all the calipers already, any FWD lexus/camry is to be avoided

i have one of those already actualy, but the problem with upgrading the rear is you'll loose the hand brake, toyota/lexus all use the drum style on their other platforms besides the mr2/mrs. Also these rear caliper based toyota/lexus has a taller/wider rotor so you'll need to put a spacer behiind the rotor making your wheel stick out a good 13-20mm
