![]() theres my bucket. all stock, it has a 94 wing on now, and weldy bubbles on the body because im lazy and havent finished the body work i think its very hard to install a kit and not get the "boy ricer" look.. but i guess thats what some people go for. i try to disassociate myself from the "import" crowd as much as possible. |

I agree in theory, but disagree in practice
![]() If Toyota had made the side skirts cover that nasty frame rail that (on most MR2's) is rusty and bent/dented up from jacks, etc, it'd be much easier desicion to keep it stock. My #1 reason for getting (authentic) GReddy sides was so that frame rail wasn't visible... yuck! Even painting it doesn't do the car justice. Secondly, the bottom body line is kinda screwy from the factory, as you can see in Tom's pic. The 93 lip is noticeably lower than the sides, which are noticeably lower than the rear. If they were all at a slight angle upwards, and followed themselves down the body lines, then all would be good, but they don't. The 93 lip stops, then the skirts start an inch higher, then the rears start an inch higher, like stairs.. Anyway, I like a symmetrical body height to ground for the car.. .more pleasing to the eye. Notice how high my rear looks without any body addons... kinda strange. I'll be adding Border rears this summer, but the front and sides look even, at least, while still looking classy (and far from ricey, IMO). ![]() |

i completely agree with Boostd4. one piece of the body should start exactly where the last one left off.

I'm currently having my Border rears molded, and I think whenever ShineAuto gets their C-one lip out, I may have that molded to the front bumper. That way the front and rear are still stock bumpers, and look mostly stock (and are removable like stock) but are slightly more aggressive. We'll see, I guess.

As you are all over the pond in the U.S. I can say this knowing you can't get at me!!
Bomex is best!! had a trd on the last 2 we had and spent more time repairing it then driving over here we have way to many pot holes & road humps ( this is where they put a raised chunk of road to slow you down) on the roads for anything low ![]() |

Sorry I'm bringing this up like 5 pages late...but Ncturnal, why did you have to repaint a good majority of your car over because of a kit? Wouldn't the paint's durability be akin to a stock body?

Not even remotely close. One big contributing factor is the kit pieces sit closer to the ground and are thereby susceptible to more damage. That aside, pretty much any kitted car I've seen (no matter how good the kit is) doesn't age well compared to OEM, especially if it's driven often.

IMO, do what you want.. it's your car. But, keep in mind.. Respect this car as it's just not your "run-of-the-mill" cookie cutter Honda Civic,etc.. Not enough people respect the history of the MR2 and thats why it's getting harder to find nice examples.
Most people that own them just blow them off as a regular car w/o appreciating what they have. I know that is not true of everyone, but unfortunetly it is true. That said.. I wouldn't mod the body of a 94-95, NO WAY... And, I would make a 91-93 look like a 94-95 if I owned one, if anything at all other that wheels and suspension. But, that is all my opinion.. and I hope others take the 94-95 rarity as seriously as I do. Also, keep all your stock parts or don't mess with the car at all. There are some exceptions in my mind.. like modify an auto MK1 like I did to a 5spd 4agze.. The car wasnt' going to be worth anything anyway. In fact.. I saved it by being interested in modding it. Or, it would be out in some field right now rotting away. |
