Its Turbo Time's 2009 build
Hey guys, here are some updates I did for this season.:
My goals coming into this build were to Clean up the engine bay, do some heat protection, and get the drive train ready for the added power. Being that I race the car I wasn't going for the completely stripped show car engine bay, I was just trying to make the bay less cluttered and easier to work in while still looking good. Im sure I missed some stuff, but heres my list: Painted the engine bay black Thermotech Heat barriers on front and rear firewalls Wiring harness was tucked along with the brake booster line and engine lid latch cable. Relocated fusebox to the trunk Shortened coolant hard lines on the side the block, got rid of throttle body heater AN fittings were silver soldered onto the hardlines for the turbo coolant feed and return. Engine harness was relocated behind the intake manifold runners to make working with the fuel rail and injectors easier Custom Coolant filler was welded to coolant neck, Outlet for throttle body heater was welded closed Coolant neck and Thermostat housing was powder coated silver vein metallic. Coolant line to radiator was shortened (hard line loop by gas filler pipes was removed) Red silicone coolant hoses. Thermotech Turbo-bag on turbocharger hot side and adapter. Downpipe was coated with DEI high temp silicone spray and wrapped with DEI Titanium Heat Wrap. Stainless Steel Heat Shield was fabricated to deflect the heat from the turbocharger and exhaust manifold away from the IC cold pipe and throttle body. Turbo was clocked slightly and new aluminum to -10AN oil return line was fabricated. Transmission was painted with silver Dupicolor engine paint. Hux Racing Scatter shield. South Bend 6 puck clutch (High torque alltrack version) ARP flywheel bolts CRW upgraded CV joints. XVRacing Super light Motor mount inserts. Fuel injector clinic top feed fuel rail and 900cc injectors (Stock rail and injectors are back on while breaking in the clutch) All new stainless hardware New freeze-out plugs New hose from hell and hose from hell on earth. New timing belt and tensioner. Resurfaced flywheel. Lots of other parts repainted. Trailer wiring converter was used to make the outer brake lights also work as turn signals (OEM amber was blacked out and bulbs were removed. Pictures of the build will be in my next posts |

Paiting the bay:
I wanted a paint that would be more durable then a typical automotive paint so I could work in the bay without the fear of chips and scratches. I decided to go with gloss black Rustoleum. All scuffed up and ready for paint: Fresh Black Rustoleum: ![]() |

Heat protection:
The stock firewall heat mat was old and ugly, so I decided to go with something that would look nicer, work better, and brighten up the bay a bit. I got a huge roll of the Thermo-Tech Thermo-guard heat shielding from summit racing, its a polyester fiber felt with a foil facing. It was very easy to work with and glues to the firewalls using the DEI high temp spray adhesive, which worked great. ![]() I am running a trunk-mount IC so I decided to do the rear firewall also to keep the engine bay heat out of the trunk. ![]() |

I re-clocked the turbo which gave me enough room to fabricate a new aluminum turbo oil drain outlet with a -10 fitting:

I went to Mark's last night, got the car up on the lift and took a few more pics
![]() Here are some shots of my modified coolant to rad line: ![]() ![]() Its a pretty simple modification it shortens the coolant system, reduces heat by the intake, and cleans up the firewall. All that you need to do it put a 90* bend right off of the hardline thats under the car (You can use a small piece of hose as a coupler like I did.) The stock upper hose will work perfect to connect the 90* bend to the coolant neck just trim to size. |

Here is a shot of the other end of the oil drain, I just welded a -10 bung to the stock piece:
![]() I dont think Iv ever posted pics of my exhaust up so while I was under the car I took some shots. Its 3" to dual 2.5" with a flex-section and high flow cat, just mild steel piping with summit satin black header coating. Its been on the car for more then 3 years, and it sounds great. We told Mark not to drink and drive ![]() |
