and you have the DP mentioned earlier, is it the solid type with that support bracket, or is the flexible berk type?
The motor definitly looks good with ex parts you have. And for the price you paid on the car, a total steal. Hopefully it all goes well after the rebuild. |

he did say his manifold is CX, but im curious about his downpipe now. I dont really see any good pictures that show it here. But if he has the CX manifold, then it problably has the CX DP as well. And yet it is holding out well as mentioned earlier.
I wonder how it is being pushed, I go 4000-6000rpms for about 3 mins, max of 5 mins during a run. Glowing red afterwards, with no problems using stock manifold. I am too afraid to do this with a stainless one just yet....i dont want my FRP 1 piece boot/eng hood to melt from exhaust leaks.... |

at first when i got the car the exhaust manifold was already in the car, same with the dp. they had really bad welding so i replaced the exhaust manifold with the cx. for the dp it is cracked right through the welding seem. so now im going to buy a ko racing 2.5 inch dp or the ems one. iv driving my car hard and so far the manifold is doing fine. do you know if the Toyota gasket for the stock ex manifold will work on my cx manifold.
the gasket you see in the picture needs to be replaced |

woh. thats some dino-damage!! I hear that KO one is flawless. I have the berk because of the flex part which i like, but the inside looks shotty compared to the Japanese DP's offered. the metal like overlaps where gas can get caught and swirl around. I had to grind down as much as I could safely and tig some more stainless metal down and regrind. big pain.
I dont see why the gasket wouldnt work? gen1/2 have similar gasket to the 1 you need to replace anyway right? i only have messed with the stainless gen3 gaskets so far. Which i dono why they changed it up like that. I would suspect that the stock toyota gasket would be better than the one supplied with the manifold there. *shrugs* Last edited by SW20jiro; 09-09-2010 at 07:14 PM.. |

But yeah, those overhangs really bothered me. The fit and finish of the KO is infinitely better in this regard. Kris really put time and effort into his DP's. As for the Toyota Exhaust manifold gaskets, I have a 7 bolt manifold (91-92 Gen 2) and it uses a multi layered stainless gasket also. I haven't seen a none stainless multi layers oem gasket. I know the 93+ USDM MR2's had a 9 bolt pattern, but the gasket should be a multi layered stainless gasket. jdm, for the DP I'd recommend the KO one. It fitment on the car is flawless, and the fit and finish of the product itself is perfect. The inside is dead smooth, no overhangs, and it fits up to the car perfectly. Plus, it's manufactured here in the USA (right down I-5 from Seattle in fact, in Oregon City, Oregon). As for the manifold, it looks like your manifold and head are 9 bolt, so I'd imagine as long as you get a 9 bolt an OEM exhaust manifold gasket you should be fine. |

A friend said he reused the stock ex-manifold gasket(wasnt too old from a previous rebuild), tho the car is a S14 sylvia, but its a 500WHP S14! with an XS power type "made in china" ex-manifold. He didnt like the supplied gasket and decided to use the stock one, per the tuner/mechanics recommendation. These guys aren't idiots, the thing doesn't leak and is holding well now coming on the second year after the install. Granted, he's only a weekend warrior drag racer on an 0-400meter track, (8th mile i believe) like once a month...
I had know idea he used the xs power type manifold, hes got so much money, im surprised he got it, but he liked the price too much. lol. and had some American friend order it for him and sent it to japan. no cracks yet! "but if it goes, I'd just get another one because even the quality 1000$ plus ones made in Japan crack here and there" he says... with that, im problably sold on one from CX..... |

maaaaaaan, holy shish kabobs! thats a big crack! I looked online at yahoo.auctions.co.jp for junk ex-manifolds with cracks to see how common/rare it is. I see some minor cracking, but nothing like that!! almost completely severed!
