October 2007 MR2 Showcase

Congratulations to 4agzeSE
MR2Board's October 2007 Showcase MR2!

1989 Supercharged MR2 Super Edition

This Supercharged MR2 speaks nearly entirely for itself. Matt's Super Edition proves to be one of the rarest MR2 models ever available. Rumoured to have production numbers not exceeding two hundred, this car is the only confirmed Super Edition to have made its home in North America. Even the UK, where RHD cars are at home, there are said to be only 5 of these models in existence.

Matt's modlist is currently shrinking, and that's exactly how he wants it. This Super Edition is a restoration project in progress, with absolutely no expense spared. The latest addition is a new seat cover for the original Recaro equipment found in the MKI, at a cost of over $1200, you can be sure that Matt is truly dedicated to this restoration. Next up is a search for perfect examples of the original Momo steering wheel and shift knob. Luckily, this car started out in excellent enough shape that there isn't far to go to get it perfect.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful and rare beast with us Happy MR2ing Matt !

Congratulations! That has go to be the nicest MK1 I've ever seen. In all honesty the words "clean", "new", "nice", none of these even come close to describing how immaculate your car is.

Keep it up!

Wow...it is an honor to be choosen as the MR2 of the month. Thanks for your feedbacks. My car will eventually be 100% stock. It won't take much to get it there, after I find my steering wheel and shift nob. If you have any questions please go ahead and ask, I'll be more than happy to respond

Thanks guys for all the comments.

After everything was said and done, and on the road, it costed me around $12000.00. That includes the government fees, inspection fees and new tire/brakes to pass the inspection!

Nice.. congrats..

Can you tell me what those little chrome looking things do on the front fenders? Also, do you have the original trunk liner mat that says Toyota on it? Also, do you have the OEM flare with molded panel and ladies shoebox? How about the red trays that sit underneath and behind the seats?

I think there is actually 6 in the UK.. and two in New Zealand. There was also one for sale in Canada w/o the stripes on it.. I"m assuming that this is yours since it seems to only have soe of the decals..

I believe that the chrome pieces are for the addition of small fender mirrors. You'll notice quite a few Japanese cars have mirrors on the fenders.

All I have to do to take the car back to stock is...
1] Find my original steering wheel and shift nob
2] Remove the red hoses from the engine bay and replace with Toyota OEM
3] Order another intercooler cover so it's the original color (grey)
4] Pull the cusco strut tower bar off
5] Strip the pain off the red calipers
6] Get a set of Stock SC wheels refinished and mount it on

Everything else is stock including the fender markers and the red Super Edition floormats. I have already pulled of the gas padel cover that you see in the picture. The car came with that as well. I kept it on for so long because it says on it "MR2 the runabout spirit"!! that will stay in my collection of MKI memorabilia
