Toyota MR2 Board Security and Passwords

The MR2 Board staff has discovered that Jeff Fazio, aka JeckylandHyde has been attempting to compromise the security of at least one of the administrator accounts here. Since this occured at his individuals place of employment, his company's IT department has also been notified. This activity is childish, and has put his job at serious risk. This should be a reminder that while online, you leave a trail and you can be identified if you engage in anything illegal.

Another point this brings to light is the need for strong passwords. With weak or easy to guess passwords, your online identity is just a click away from being compromised. While nothing happened with this incident due to use of strong passwords, the potential damage if the password had been compromised could have been extensive. Your credentials, if compromised, could be used to defraud other members of the community while the person "poses" as you. This problem is easily adverted with use of good passwords. You should try to use a password that is at least 8 characters in length, using a combination of upper and lower-case letters, numbers, & symbols. You shouldn't use anything that is easy to guess like your name, board name, wife's name, etc.

Here is an example of a good password: bP4@}dr*

Please use good passwords for the safety and security of both yourself and you fellow community members. Also, you should be cognizant of the risks of using the same password on all sites, as some sites (not vBulletin sites) can be easily compromised in some cases.

It's just like most things in life. There are only a few people that are the problem that make so many more look bad, be it the person who tried to hack our board, the looters in New Orleans, or the terrorist extremists. There's always a few that have to try and ruin things for the masses.

That's just not a good password, that's a hell of a good password, but probably too complex to remember.

Here's a suggestion for pretty decent security. Take a word, intercooler, and start substituting like so ---> 1inT3rc00l3r

After a few times you'll get used to it and it's easier to remember than something like uHJ#2J8&^5ghjg$.
