attaching *.jif images to a thread

I just noticed something as I was uploading pics for my VIN registry threads: I cannot upload *.jif images to attach them to a thread but I uploaded jif's into my gallery. Why is this? Just curious.

Looks like the board may not support that type of file. Isnt a .jif a java file.

Can you not convert the files to JPG of GIF?
