Change request for the MKII section

Could we possibly compile the common troubleshooting procedures for the MKII's and get a big sticky for it? I would be more than glad to work on this, as the MKII section is constantly full of questions like, "i just gotz my swap done and now it wont start." It's becoming a place that I dislike visiting because I'm tired of giving vague answers to vague questions when all the person asking the question needed to do was search...and capitalize...and spell correctly...and punctuate.
No disrespect intended, I just thought I'd throw it out there because I know I'm not the only one with this concern.]

Also, what does one have to do to become, say, a regional mod?

Sure, we have no problem with that. Ideally we would like to have articles posted to the MR2 Technical Knowledgebase that we could link to from the sticky.

I'm sorry, but if this is going to start being a problem, then I'm off! Up until now we managed to distance ourselves from OC entirely because we didn't place rules and regulations on everything. Above all the bull**** statement - use the serach button pisses me off more than anything!! WTF is the community for if not for giving answers?? The whole forum would then really be a moot point because you can find almost everything out there somewhere! If you find the question vague either ask for specifics or leave the thread alone! You could even go to OC and feel at home with persons of the same ilk.

It's also funny that someone with 128 posts is tired of giving any type of answer! Do something for the community before expecting something from same!

Just my 0,02
Good day, Sir!

While true to a degree, it is much easier having all of the common information easily accessible from a few stickies.

I generally do leave them alone, and have since I was invited to join this forum when it was started. This is not the only forum where this is happening. Some are communities full of douchebags, some have a large and strict set of rules, and some are just incredibly organized with their information so noobs don't have to post the same question hundreds of times. My goal is not to try and make a bunch of rules here. I just want the common troubleshooting information to be easy to find and sort through so members can help themselves solve their own problems instead of expecting somebody to diagnose and fix their car over the internet.

I kinda agree/disagree a writeup on vacuum leaks, tps adjustment etc etc wouldn't go amiss there is no point stopping anybody from making a nice writeup the biggest usefulness with stickies is not that people read them alot most newbies ask anyway BUT gives you a link where you just go "here try this" saves typing the same things over and over just copy paste the link and done.

Big Thurs, I'm a newbie at some things and a master at others, so we all have our degrees of knowledge here. At times I (and others) just need a quick answer or a recommendation. Since when is asking a simple question a problem for this forum? I'm very new here, since October 2009, I've helped a few I hope and I've certainly been given help. But since you've been a member for 5 years and have only been "thanked" 4 times, what's it matter to you if newbies like me ask questions without searching stickys? You obviously don't help out with questions or else you'd be thanked more often than .8 times per year.

I appreciate this site more than MR2OC simply because THERE ARE a myriad of questions being asked by certified mechanics and newbies alike. I have leanred more by reading what others ask then by asking my own questions. If you want to put together a big "how to" section go ahead, but this forum is only going to be successful if all ranges of automobile knowledge can co-exist.

If you're in a thread where you feel the need to respond with: "Please use the search" Please DO NOT.

What will happen is the board will fill up with a large amount of threads with "Please use the search" And so when anyone does use the search they will inevitably have to search through a ton of those useless threads and may never find anything useful.

It's very annoying. Please dig up the links for whoever is asking and post those as a response.

I agree
I think some people are taking my suggestion a little out of context. I am not anti-noob. I was a noob once, just like everyone else. I am not against asking questions. I DO believe that we could have more productive discussions if the first few pages of any particular subforum was not full of repetitive questions.

I'm not trying to say or imply otherwise. I learned the same way back when it was only the oc.

People generally don't give an online "thanks" when you show them how to pull their motor, replace their clutch, diagnose various problems in the flesh and free of charge. If post counts and "thanks" counts are all you judge people by, then go ahead and skip over this thread.

I am not taking a hostile attitude towards anyone here. I merely want the same thing that everyone else wants here; a successful and friendly community of mr2 enthusiasts!

The "Thanks" option wasn't in place until late October 2007.

New site addition - "Post thank you"

We appreciate help from all individuals no matter how they wish to give it. Some welcome new members in the Check In forum, some give lenthy replies, some link to past discussions, and some have offered their talents to the KB, which we greatly appreciate. A well written KB article is very useful in the long term and we greatly appreciate all of the help we can get with its development.

Ok, I'll take a small step back here and apologize for my insinuation with regards to your post count. Sorry!

As to the rest: I'm all for the organisation of available data - stickies and KB write-ups are the shizz!

It's this
Quote:
when all the person asking the question needed to do was search...and capitalize...and spell correctly...and punctuate.
that is superfluous. Even though you write that no disrespect is intended, it is implicit in the way you formulated the sentence.

I personally try to take the stance, that if I don't understand a question then I am at fault and not the person asking! After all, they're asking in a way that they understand. So all that remains is for me to try and ask for more information or specifics to be able to answer the question, or to explain that I can't help and leave it at that.

In the end that's just me. There are all sorts on this board and that is what makes it so special. The fact that we are 'all over the place' with regards to rules, spelling, punctuation, knowledge and..oh..everything! is what fuses this community together more than OC ever could. I never have the feeling, that the regulars here try to outdo each other or place a value on someone based on how they present themselves in the forum.

So what does that leave us with? If you feel it's your place to try and correct the grammar here then that is fine, really. A small hint or a PN can work wonders. But whatever you do please don't make it a prerequisite to your answer

I'm going to have to disagree magic. If you're asking for help, at least be considerate enough to do so in a manner most people can understand. We have rules for spelling and grammar for a reason. I appreciate questions that I can read far more than an online "thanks" (though those aren't bad either :P) because it makes it easier for me to help.

By all means disagree I'll give you another example though:

Imagine you are in a foreign country - you only have a very basic grasp of the language - and now you would like to know the way to the hospital. Imagine how it would be if the guy you're asking thinks the same way. Not a nice thought.

I don't mind either way, but I will begin to mind if we start to enforce rules and regulations of grammar before helping. I stand by my point: If you are offended, annoyed or pissed off by such small things then don't post or send a PM explaining you problem with the post - don't take it to the board, it doesn't belong there in my opinion.

Mods: What do you say?? Will there be any kind of grammar enforcement or such like?

I don't want to see grammar rules here as soon as you start enforcing it even lightly it is an open invitation to arrogance you get the people picking apart posts for no reason. If someone is really bad at laying out a post or something most people round here still answer just they say stop spelling like a retard it helps. Let the people sort themselves.

Please stop with the grammar corrections, its wasting space and time for people to read into a thread and find that the answers you are looking for is undone by people correcting grammar mistakes which usually derails the thread.
