Need advice..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a 1991 MR2 (non-turbo w/T-Tops) that I bought May 1, 1990. I am the original owner of the car. I have not had any problems with my baby in the more than 17 years that I have owned her. My MR2 has about 75,000 original miles on it. My EX-boyfriend drove it and hit a curb really, hard. Hard enough to blow out one front tire and shift the body of the car slightly (this is why he is an EX-boyfriend). The damage is not obvious but I want it fixed. For example: The right vent louver pops out sometimes, due to the warping. The engine hood is not flat, or flush with the surface surrounding it when closed. The front hood and lights surfaces are uneven when viewing from the front... it looks warped. In addition, the windows rattle due to wear and tear over the years. How do I get these problems repaired, and what terminology do I use when conversing with a body shop? I am mechanically challenged. I would also like to have the car & trim repainted. It has been garaged most of the years that I have owned it, so it is not that bad. Just nicks and dings from nearly 20 years of wear. It has the original super white factory color, but I am really thinking of having it painted a medium silvery blue metallic color. The same EX-boyfriend that hit the curb hard also neglected to tell me that he had never driven a 5-speed. The car now idles at 2000 & 3000 rpm. I’ve put it in the shop a few times for this issue, but I can still hear it revving high while I’m driving and when I stop. All suggestions and opinions on repair and restoration will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Well... sounds like he did a good job. Did he miss anything? LOL I'm not a body mechanic... so I can't tell you for sure. And without pictures it's hard to tell. Body panels lining up is a sure way to tell if your car has been in an accident. And sometimes they can never be completely corrected again. But, most body panels can be adjusted, body mounts bent, and retightened etc. If her frame is bent, then you may have more issues... which it kinda sounds like it might be. If you are thinking about painting it then all of this at the same time is best. Bringing your car for repeated trips to the body shop is nothing but expensive. As far as the idling... you need to bring that in to a Certified Toyota mechanic and have them go through it. If you haven't had your timing belt changed... get ready to dish out some cash$$$ It's gonna cost around $500 dollars for this visit... sometimes more. BTW... You should post technical questions like this in the MKII section. ->http://www.mr2.com/forums/mk-2-mr2-sw20/ or in the body shop section of the main board. The only reason I saw this was because of your post in the t-top/hardtop/sunroof poll. I was intrigued by your screeen name and looked for more posts by this... uhemmm... QT? ![]() Anyway, welcome to the club! |
