Does anyone know when you take your car that has a different engine, do they look at the ECU or the vin on the engine?

I doubt it. At least I have not heard of any stories. There are many enthusuast (not only MR2) that swap engines all the time.
Maybe a question to Davis friend that AutoX? What's his name? He has a red MR2 with V6? I'd ask him about it. Last edited by masagsxr; 11-16-2009 at 04:21 AM.. |

Take your car where? The Referee or AutoX? The Ref might look at it, if it's an obd2 engine they will look at it since they'll connect to the computer to make sure all the monitors have passed their self check tests.

We're asking for ODBI...Colin wants to do a V6 swap and we found a 3VZ for $80 but it's out of a 92 camry. So to make it smog legal doesn't it have to be out of a newer car or same year? Since Colin's is a 93' (which he so proudly displays
) would we be able to get it passed the BAR with a 92 engine? Maybe if we used a 93 ECU?_______________________ Renata would like to say a little something: Hi everyone i miss all you guys and the forums like crazy! I have been MIA for too long. I have been too busy to spend time online . Hope you all are well, i am psyched we got the v6 running, and we will be getting the AW up and running this week Finally! woot! looking forward to the next meet, whenv that is. Anywhoo i gotta hook my pc back up in my room and then i will be back online more. scouts honor LoL. Reni out. |

i am almost certain that it was by vin and ecu. (i was looking this up as well when i was thinking of v6) hard part was that it's hard to find a 93 3vz, my friend has a 93 camry and it is a 1mz i think he's lying about the year though hmm..

Here is a random question. How much is a decent set of Forged pistons for the 3SGTE?
Okay never mind, turns out the answer is $500-$600 and up. Last edited by visuvius; 11-16-2009 at 04:24 PM.. |

Hey Mark, What are you doing with your old 5S block? I'll buy it for $50.

Dorman: Are you going to post up a writeup of your build? I would like to see all the pain and suffering you went to and of course the celebration of success in the end

There are a bunch at the yard if that will work for you. Mostly off corollas and camry's. You just have to take it apart yourself. Not sure how much they sell for tho.

I'm doing an engine rebuild. If I'm looking for 275-300 reliable HP, do I need forged pistons, or am I okay with OEM?
