Thumbs up The Official SoCal Chat Thread

Here is the place to come and chat about anything and everything. Throw out suggestions, ask quick questions, and make general comments about the SoCal community.

Since we seem to overload all the other threads with chitchat posts I took Davis' idea and ran with it. Looking for this to be a permanent sticky if we're lucky. Again...credit goes to Davis

Nice... So where are local meets around here? I'm in Norwalk, CA. I'd like to see cars in person rathern than reading hundred of threads. Interested in looking for different types of engine swap up close and personal.

I knew I should have made this thread last night! Thanks though Mark.

Alright so yeah, I bought konis and now Mark and Colin hates me.

And have you guys heard of Silversun Pickups? I really like their music. I heard one of their songs from work and I just had to buy their cd.

^No...do they have a website or myspace page?

We don't hate you davis...I'm just jealous. I got a new seat and steering wheel though. So hopefully I'll have those in by the next meet. And if I can really pull it in I'll have my suspension, brakes, and wheels all done by mid october.

You're pretty central to everyone. We've only had a handful of meets really. The SoCal community is still in its infantile stage. Our first big meet was in Anaheim.
Our next one will be Orange County (Westminster) MR2 Meet Oct. 19, 2008. After that its gonna be the 1st Annual MR2 Turkey Trot (Nov. 16th 2008)

As for small mini meets keep your eyes open on the SoCal forum. Welcome by the way!

Cool.. I'll be more active in the meets then. I use my car as a daily and a part time project just trying to make it look even nicer.

Where can I get some hookups on parts? Looks like you are working on your car yourself. I'd like to get some shocks/struts and also the wheels. Mine is pretty much all stock (91 N/A black T-top)

For wheels, I'm looking to get 17x8 +35 offset front and 17x10 between 0-20 offset rear . I'm putting flares at the back (stay tuned) hehehehe

That's pretty much what mine is at this point. DD and part time project. Wish it was more than part time but I work too much. There's a lot of hook ups on the boards but it all depends what you are looking for. Just throw it out there and someone might have it. I gave Abner some brake pads for $20 last meet cause I didn't need them.

What spring and shock combo are you thinking about? 17's are a good size for a stock MR2. 16's aren't too bad either and they'll retain a little more civil ride and cost a little less. Are you wanting five spoke or what???

Yeah something five spoke like the good old Volk Racing or the BLITZ P03 or something. Already have the springs (Tein S-Tech). Younger brother used to have an MR2 but very careless so he totalled it and did not get a chacne to put the springs. Years later I bought mine since my truck (05 Titan) is killing me on gas $$$.

As far as shocks, I'm just looking to get the Tokico Illumina. I've read lots of post (mr2oc site) and seems like the choices from top to bottom was Koni Yellows, Tokico then coilovers (ksport if tracking) and some said to stay away from KYB. For the price, Tokico would be my final choice. Was hoping to put the eibach or TRD springs since i dont want to lower it too much. Those I believe were 1" drop and the Tein that I have will be 1.5"+

Something like this would be nice.

Kyb's aren't bad. Bang for the buck. I have some TRD's on AGX's they are a decent ride. I took Mark out at one meet. Of course Koni's are a whole 'nother class.

KYB AGX cost more than Tokico tho. At least from what I see out there even fleebay. I can get tokico's for $400 OTD locally.. I just haven't had a chance to come up with the money.... No rush since this is going to be a looooooooooooong slow project hehehehe

I know what you mean...mine is gonna be slow too. I still have to build a new engine. That's gonna be the killer . Have you looked at Bilstein? They're pretty nice and a bit cheaper than koni's. Ji's TRD's on AGX is pretty smooth. Depending on how important ride quality is to you I'd just spend the little extra for nicer shocks and struts.

I like the five spoke look. They're a lot of sweet ones out there. You could check out Ji's...

yes i've check Bilstein. About $50 more than Tokicos. I know its good but the reason its not one of my option was because its not adjustable. If I were to pick between Koni and Bilstein i'd pick bilstein because of the price =)

This is the price I got from a local dealer.

Yeah...I would keep her and I've gone back and forth about this for about 6 months now. I honestly would, but I can't keep the Lexus I just bought outside. The BMW and MR2 are in the garage and the GS, 4Runner, and Accord are outside. I don't mind keeping the Accord out there because its my daily, but she never gets driven anymore. Once or twice a week is just not good enough for her. I'm too paranoid someone is going to ding her, steal her, hit her, etc.

I swear america is the only place where people keep crap in the garage and their most expensive things outside of it . I always gave my parents crap for that.

I wish I could buy your two off of you Ji. It's been so well kept and looks so clean. Unfortunately I don't have a garage or an extra ten grand lying around. Have you considered getting one of those outdoor car bubbles? It looks like a car cover but it seals off the car from the elements...
