Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - CDE-102
I put an Alpine CDE-102 in my MR2 It does just about everything including what you are looking for. I spent $180 at Best Buy and they do have an insert for the hole where the original CD player went for $16. |

If you're looking for simplicity and not a highly overdone interface, I would suggest going with a low-price head unit that doesn't have the ipod integration. All of my friends dropped a ton of money on fancy head units that have ipod integration and they like them, but the ipod section of the interface is their least favorite part. Searching through songs, artists, etc. on a head unit is usually very tedious. I have a cheap sony head unit in my car I picked up for $60 used with an auxiliary port. It sounds good, and I still get to use the interface the device was designed to be used with. In all honesty, it's easier and less distracting to use the ipod controls themselves with an auxiliary than it is to click through one of the alpine heads. Just my two cents, but if I was you, working on a budget and just wanting to play my ipod, I would stick to auxiliary imput.

My current cd player has an input, though, and there is nothing I hate more than having to find the stupid ipod when I'm driving. All I really ever do is skip tracks anyways.

I would recommend the Alpine 9886 as well, but I can understand the post about how bright it is.
