Decent EMS for under a grand? Not really. Some get close to a grand, but they are quite outdated. An example is the SDR, which isn't in production anymore, but usually goes used for a grand or so.

As for if you need it or not, that depends entirely on your goals.

My petpeve is people who always say they dont wanna spend money on the ems...yet they have no problem in buying a 3k+ turbo kit & acc'ys....

If you are going to pay that money why not invest in a setup that will be reliable for years to come?

there's a big difference between 3k and 5k, I'm either gonna do it right or not do it at all which is why i asked if there was a decent ems for under 1k. 3-4k i could probably swing but 5k is pretty decent chunk of change to blow on my car, maybe next year.

If you are considering td05 or td06, why dont you just get the td06+rom package from ATS racing? if you dont have any parts its $3000 for the td05, and like $150 more for td06.

been thinking about it but the rom tune doesn't leave room to grow. and it doesn't have boost control, launch control, or eliminate the AFM like many stand alone ems's do. I'll probably end up with the rom tune but i'd like look into my other options as well.

If you don't want to spend the extra money...don't spend the initial money! Period....its hard to eat but just wait a few extra months and then get the ems too even if it takes a year. Or heck add the EMS first

I'm with Weasy2K. If the ROM tune won't meet your power goals, it's smartest to get the EMS now. Otherwise, you will lose the difference between new and used prices on the ROM tune, plus time involved.
