ECU with CEL Codes?
Is there a system available that will control ignition/timing and fuel injection but still be able to get cel codes? I live in a state that needs the cel light. Thanks.

What do you mean by CEL codes? Do they just expect the CEL to be on when the ignition is on but the engine isn't running or do they expect the CEL to blink when the E1-T1 jumper is installed?

Just when you turn the ignition to on (with the engine off) and during cranking.

you mean OBD-1 codes? or just have it so that light comes on and off during cranking?

Most other EMSs can also be set up similarly, although some work is going to usually be required on your part to make all this happen. |

Would you recommend this system? Does it replace the stock ECU? Thanks for the info!!

I think Sang said it all for me. I'm one of the two guys who runs MR Controls and we sell the Nemesis as a full plug and play replacement for the MR2 ECU. You install it and it should start and let you drive off boost to your tuner. More information is available at http://www.mrcontrols.com

I have a ton of Hydra Nemesis experience, and I love them. They are a fantastic EMS.

Thanks for the info and recos, guys. I'm saving my $$ right now!
Then I can get rid of the stock MAF too! Can the Hydra be set up to run two different maps (ignition and fuel) that could be switched while running? I'm setting up a water injection system and I want the new EMS to run two different maps based on if there is water pressure in the injection system.I imagine it can be set up with a wide band O2 sensor? I would most likely be tuning it myself. Thanks again. |

Yup! The Nemesis will actually run 3 different, completely independant maps that can be switched with the motor running. There's even a 4th spark map if you get too much knock. It turns on your check engine light and puts you in "limp mode" where the car becomes a dog until you shut if off and turn it on again.
Pretty cool, eh? The water pressure is exactly what I use this feature for! My 3rd map is for anti theft. It zeros out my whole fuel map so the car won't start. It could be wired to an alarm output to activate when the alarm is active. I am going to setup a car just like that this weekend on the Hydra Nemesis! |

The Nemesis has three full sets of 32x32 maps which can be selected via an external signal. The Nemesis also has a built-in wideband controller so with the extra wideband option it runs its own wideband sensor without external boxes.

for OBD2 you still need your factory ECU connected to the diagnostics port. when they do the check, they plug into the diag port and read codes. the ECU has to tell the inspection computer that it has certain 'ready flags' set to true, and no stored codes. you cant just rig some EMS up that controls the check engine light to turn on and such...
BUT you can prob get away with this if you live in a place that only tests 97 and up OBD2 this way.. around me they used to do a tail pipe test for older cars, now it is just visual, and new cars do the plug in diagnostics. I gave up on my piggy back subaru that could not be reflashed as I could not get much more power out of it without resorting to methods thaty would not keep it 100% emisisons legal. I used an emange piggy back and a rising rate regulator in order to get enough fuel to double whp. I could not go to larger injectors as the ecu + piggy back would keep throwing CEL for too low MAP signal at low loads, therefore failing the plug in computer check. Now the nemesis is configured for some cars in parallel with the ECU to allow the factory ecu to do stuff liek the CAN bus, evap emissions, and drive by wire etc. This might be adequate to keep the factory ecu sending the all good to the diag port, probably provided the engine is operating within parameters that make it happy. |

The Nemesis can directly control drive by wire without the help of the stock ECU. It can do evap and other accessories as well. There's rumors about autonomous CAN bus operation.
Unfortunately, it won't do OBDII inquiry responses. |

I can certainly see a liability problem there, no doubt. I can see why nobody does OBDII to that level.
