Mechanics Gloves...

Ones I tried were:

1. Generic brand from some auto parts store (~$10/pair) - they didn't last long, got torn up from when I hand loosen some bolts. Plus brake fluid eats them alive.

2. Craftsman Mechanics gloves ($25/pair) - they lasted a good while when working on suspension parts, and such but they really disintegrated with brake fluid.

Im not a pro mechanic, and Im pretty messy, so when doing brakes, the brake fluid gets everywhere. Seems the synthetic gloves do not like brake fluid.

Im going to try leather ones next and see how they fair.

I just buy a box of latex gloves from Sweetbay. I used to have a pair of gloves, but my hands would get nasty with sweat working in the FL heat, and I couldn't get the right feel when working in the engine. Whether it be reaching to find a bolt/part blind, or what have you.

Yeah, I know what you mean, since I take the gloves off a lot of times to feel around. But I do like them, in general, I don't get as messy, and I brake the latex/vinyl ones so fast they aren't even worth it to me.

I bought a $10 pair from Princess Auto, but I always find myself taking them off. I just don't find you get the dexterity you need.

I actually use my Mechanics gloves for driving when its cold outside. When I am working on the car I use latex gloves. The actual mechanics brand gloves are quite durable but I find that anything on my hand except for the latex gloves doesn't allow me the dexterity I need. But for a normal glove and a normal driving glove they have worked well.

a box of a 100 nitrile gloves... the best gloves you can use while working on your car.

^^ Agreed.

After the Craftsman Mechanix gloves were lost moving, I bought a pair of Sparco gloves (great deal on them), but I never use them. I don't know why I bought them, I barley used the pair that got lost. There's no 'feel.' I still use Nitrile.

I just got a pair of leather gloves now and they seem the most durable so far. I think the gloves are the best for cold weather. I have a garage, but it still gets in the 20's I think. I got a propane heater for the garage, but the gloves are a life saver.
