how dare you sir, how dare you i say.
you arent even keeping it in the same family, go return that and pick up a new Camry SE. ![]() Well, i may be taking the MR2 to a whole new level, thinking about dropping 7 grand into it. It will be dropped into the ENTIRE car though, looks and everything, so not just engine work :-) |

speed wasnt any reason I bought the Z .. I got my built 91 camaro for that
the only reason I got my 350z was for going to work and back comfortably and be reliable the mr2 is fun and all but dont have the time, tools, or money upfront to rebuild it the way I would want to .. (allready rebuilt my 89 supercharged mr2 and 91 camaro z28 the way I've wanted to .. dont want to dump all that money into another car thats old) maybe I'll get a nice one later on ... but for now its gotta go as for hp numbers .. its probably runnin anywhere from stock to 250hp at 12psi .. not much more than that, feels like alot but it isnt .. the 350z doesnt feel fast at all but it hits 60 alot quicker and seems effortless compared to a loud ass 4 banger screaming down the street ya'll can say what you want .. none of you would of bought the kit anyways if it made 500hp b/c it still would of been "chinese ****" all I needed was my chinese piece of crap to take place of the stock one which blew .. and its done that .. $400 turbo kit has lasted almost 15000 miles and still runs fine |

wow .. your cool
![]() your right .. I'm gonna go take my 350z back I loved having barely working a/c .. cloth seats .. water dripping on my shoulder through the t-tops when it rains .. an aching left leg after 2 hours of rush hour traffic last friday .. and all the rattles, shakes, bumps, etc from a 18 year old car .. not to mention a 320 hp car is alot slower than a 220hp car .. I mean come on a 350z doesnt even have a turbo from the factory .. it cant be fast .. why didnt I think this through ![]() |

yea .. I've noticed that toyota doesnt have any real "sports cars" on the market right now
but if the new mr2 was anything like the mk2 turbo mr2 I'd be all over it .. I thought I saw something a couple months ago about toyota was supposed to be developing a new mr2 since the mk3 is sorta down for power and goofy looking (wouldnt catch me driving one) heck if they just made the mk2 again with updated technology it'd be one hell of a car as for my nissan .. gotta give it to them .. the vq35hr v6 in my 07 350z is one hell of a motor for not having a turbo 320hp (306 by the "new" standards) dual over head cam (four total) dual throttle bodies dual intakes variable intake AND exhaust cam timing 4 valves per cylinder (almost) equal length headers from the factory dlc coatings on pistons and cam lobes the crank is "caged" into the block on this new design for greater strength (read somewhere nissan might turbo this engine in a future car) and theres tons more .. but anyways .. would be nice to see a new mr2 that has the looks of the mk2 and power of a modern designed engine .. might have to trade in the Z for that ![]() also want to know what happened to toyota's big diesel truck that was supposed to come out .. the sema prototype looked awsome with the yellow interior and HUGE diesel engine |

The American car manufacturers are doing it, I don't see why the Japanese manufacturers can't do the same. Toyota for the better part of 10 years has been all about fuel economy and a bit of style. It's be awesome to see them come back with a Modernized MK2 MR2 or even the dyno queen mk4 poopra. One can only dream and keep their fingers crossed. But from looking at their concept cars, no one in the design/engineering dept. even cares about this.

![]() ![]() so far it has 14K miles on it .. the car was starting to burn oil .. now whether that has to do with the motor or turbo I dont know .. I'd say the engine since it was starting to knock slightly every now and then .. the turbo still boosted VERY well .. the last day I had the car .. I cleaned it up, topped off the oil, warmed it up and thrashed it down the street with the boost controller turned up to about 16psi or so .. I'm gonna miss that feeling for a while .. it was pretty dang quick for a stock mr2 with a $400 turbo kit also there are about three other people that have taken on the kit here too .. so hopefully they'll chime in and possibly get some #'s the 350z is awsome .. but miss my manual tranny .. but a shift kit should fix that in the next couple weeks .. but morning traffic makes up for it hopefully I'll find a nice turbo mr2 later on .. but for now it had to go still got my 89 mr2 sc though .. it has been a project for over 3 years .. hopefully I can get it done and have fun with it |

the guy I sold the car to blew the engine ..
seems like the piston rings finally took a $hit .. but the turbo is still kickin ![]() I think he got it rebuilt and either sold the car since he just had another kid, or he's still got it .. who knows I sure miss that 3sgte though .. got my supercharged 89 mr2 running and im very tempted to swap in the 3sgte later this year or early next year after I work out all the bugs |

I know this post is a little old but I purchased the ss autochrome kit last year when I did my mk1.5 swap. The kit was a little on the shoddy side but a few more dollars for some decent parts(bolts and oil lines and fittings) the wastegate was quite the interesting affair but it seemed to work as well as a internally wastegated T3. The only other problem I ran into was that a 1.5" spacer was needed between the turbo and header. I was running 25psi with almost no creep the only problem was that I opted to run a recirc blowoff and the only one I had was the stock one and it blew apart and went through the compressor wheel, other then that it was a good kit. I also know a guy with a RB26 skyline running a ssautochrome kit with no complaints.

After reading most of the pages in this thread. I think up to page 42, I decided to leave a response.
It looks like the SSAC kit is a decent replacement / minor upgrade kit. I also find it hilarious that some people, even without any experience, will sit there and hate on the kid. Just pure hate. And it's also funny how at first it was "it will never last X amount of miles", then once it did it was like, "uh, ok, then I need to see dyno numbers or else it doesn't count!" On a dyno, it probably wont be as good as a name brand t3/t4 turbo. High PSI is great, good spool time is important, but does this turbo push the same Xlb/min of air as another name brand expensive t3/t4 turbo? I am willing to bet that it will not, but for $400 for a whole kit and <$200 for the turbo, you can't expect it to. I for one am impressed for the amount of usage that the kit has seen and withstood. I put on maybe 5000kms a year on my summer only cars. I also read something about a CT26 turbo lasting 68,000 miles. That is fine, but how many aftermarket turbos from any company last 68,000 miles? There is a huge difference in reliability / longevity when comparing OEM to Aftermarket. It's like saying an ACT 2600 clutch has to last at least 80,000 miles or else it's no good. When infact, it wont last anywhere near as long as the OEM clutch would. Regardless, nothing but respect to the OP for posting a quality thread with pictures and updated information / product listings. I, myself, will never run an SSAC kit. Not because of company reputation, or name brand recognition. I prefer to stay within the few companies I trust and like for turbos. Toyota's CT20, Forced Performance, or Comp Turbo. It is just out of pure preference. |
