this is what i'm after too!!! to bury it once and for all. we were all waiting for mekkafire to install his kit but he sold it... then passed away. so the story still was left open... this is exactly what i've been waiting for to conclude the "research" i've been following with these products once and for all...

gotta atleast give this product a fair documented chance to see how it fairs up. i know ats, berk, and the others have fantastic products backed with evidence. let's see how this ssac/xspower does once and for all.

And yes when my motors broke in and I get a BC and turn it up to 16 psi or so and if something goes wrong, ill post about it. But as of right now everything is perfect
I can look at my boost gauge and hear my turbo at 1500rpm, does that mean it isnt laggy LOL?

Please go to a dyno. You will learn someday.

Thats like someone saying there mustang gt has more power than another mans pinto and the guy owning hte pinto saying " how do you know? we havent put both of them on the dyno" Its pretty freakn blatant unless the guy in the pintos toating a V8. I could understand if someone says " I think I feel a dif". Its kindda like going from NA to supercharged. You KNOW its got more power theres no doubt about it. Uhhhh no it wouldnt be "laggy " if the thing was kicking in at 1500 rps. I would sya that pretty freakn impressive. Or what you trying to say the boost gauge is lying??

Im simply putting how do you know your turbo isnt laggy when you have no dyno backing up what you are stating. The boards have always gone by 200 ft/lb mark. Throw your car on a dyno 4th gear pull and see at what rpm you hit 200ft.lb, that will at least be a good mark to show spool.

I have a boost gauge and can build boost..that isnt showing the spool characteristics just coming out of my mouth.

Ummm I think It pretty obvious by looking at the boost gauge and watching it spool. I dont need a dyno to tell me when my car is spooling when the aftermarket boost gauge works just fine. If urs isnt starting to boost till 4k and takes a long time to hit peak boost, then I would say its " laggy " Doesnt take rocket science to look at a boost gauge and loook at ur rpms

My boost gauge showes boost at 1500 doesnt mean I am hitting 200ftlbs. So until you take it to a dyno you have no proof of your turbo being non-laggy.

See, this is what folks are talking about. My friends fully built 3sgte with TD06 would be considered laggy looking at the dyno, 4th gear pull to ( ericdyno.bmp ). But, it drives very much like stock in the lower RPMs. But after 4000RPMs, hold on to your hat, it will snap your neck off. But his MR2 ( Eric ) with the TD06 & 272 lift cams will make boost at 1500+ RPMs too. But at 1500 RPMs it is NOT making full boost, just a few psi. But, it is enough to be close to if not better than a stock 3sgte.

Heck mt stock 3sgte with ct26 will make some boost at 1500RPMs & if I rev the engine I can hear the turbo spooling as well. But, it is not getting a load put on it so it is just the shaft/wheel of the turbo turning around.

At 1500RPMs no matter what gear you are in, will not produce enough "load" to make full boost. You might be making a few psi, but any turbo should be doing that.

For this reason, this is why folks want to see your MR2 on a dyno, it gives a baseline to follow.

I too would like to see what the SS kit looks like on a dyno. Not that I ever plan on getting a kit like this from eBay. But, would like to see the results. Hopefully you will have good results, & keep those good results 1,2,3+ years down the road.

Daniel

dang, yall have been busy whilst i was at school .. lol

i try to keep my cool, no sense having an argument that no one can actually prove .. so once me and mr2gq have used the kit for a while and dyno'd it .. then we can all say "yes there cheap junk" or "no there actually a decent beginner kit" ..

im definitly not going to say the kit is better than a $2200 kit, b/c thats common sense .. but ill see how good it is when i get it .

paypal messed up last night, so i had to re-order it today .. .. so ittl be another day untill i get it ..

im about to pull my old ct26 tonight, so ill see why that started screwing up ..

Yeah I understand what ur talking aabout now. I consider lag taking forever for the boost to come on.It took me about 3 days to get my kit. And when its broke in I will take it to the dyno. Well and when I get a BC. One thing though. When I did the timing belt the marks on the back of the cams you line up to put it in time, the exhaust cam after rotating it was off just a smidg. Like the little dimple on the cam was half way past the little dimple on the cam tower you line up. I dont think its enough to effect the performance. I cant tell anything now but then again im not beating on it yet neither. Any of you think it would?

it might make a slight difference with your cam timing being off a notch .. i'd fix it just to be safe ..

as for the turbo kit, i re-ordered it today ..

my mom's paypal (for some weird reason) the comment box doesnt work when you send money .. so when they got it last night, they just got $440 and didnt know what it was for ..

they immediatly refunded the money along with a letter saying that they didnt get any info on what product i wanted ..

so today i re sent the money and it should work this time, if not ill fax the request in with a credit card #
...................

hey, mr2gq .. when that dynomax tour comes threw to summit we can both dyno our kits and post up the results ..

i got my stock turbo off today and found out that its not too badly damaged, but it needs a rebuild / new shaft / maybe a compressor housing .. and the wastegate is screwed up a little ..

so im going to have the stock header, turbo (when i rebuild it), and 3" downpipe as backup incase the SS kit gives out ..

again, once we both get some miles on our kits then maybe we can post up a sticky whether the kit is any good, and what #'s it puts down on the dyno ..

Yeah thats straight. Helll if you want I got a header and DP for the factory trubo. And if what you say is wrong with it ur better off buying a good aftermarket turbo cause its going to cost about the same to rebuild that one. They wanted 675$ to rebuild mine after my car spun a bearing and trashed the turbo

im sure that header flows better than a factory manifold not to mention you drop 25 pounds from switching it out! I dont think im going to be pushing 650hp anytime soon

I'm sure you'd be surprised how well the factory manifold flows. And yeah it's heavy, but there is a reason for that - it's cast which is always a bit heavier and it's bomb proof well almost!

Why would you need a backup? The SSAC turbo should last just as long as the $2200 kits, $500 rebuilt CT26, or the CT27, right?

I believe he already ordered the SSAC kit for $440, so that base is covered. Thats practically the same cost to rebuild the stock one.
