Hmmm did you not read what he said??? He said he wants it incase the SS kit gives out. No one here has said " ths kit is hte best and is going to last forever! " Just cause someone trys it doesnt mean they think its the best. And no it cost me 475 to get mine rebuilt and that was just a basic rebuild. He said he needs a new shaft housing probaby new wheels ect ect. After my car spun a rod bearing and trashed my new rebuilt turbo it need a new shaft bearing and wheels. It was going to cost 675 just for that. Which if he needs new housing and other stuff they are going to want to charge more which is way beyon the ss kit. I got the ss kit just to get my car back on the road pretty much. Cause I didnt have 1000 to buy a nice turbo. Not cause I think this is the best kit and is going to alst forever

I dunno. I've seen CT20B's anywhere from $550-700. A freshly rebuilt CT27 is $850, and I've seen used ones go for around $750ish. I rather use a credit card or be in debt $300 for the turbo than $3000 for when a chunk of that compressor wheel goes flying into the intake stream.

Again though, I have no personal experience with SSAC turbo kits. I've seen their cracked manifolds before, so those are definately junk. Now when you're talking IC, DP, exhaust, that's stuff that wont cause damage, since its just metal. But when you're talking a turbo, spinning at 10times the speed of your motor, even if a small casting or weld gets loose on the compressor side, theres a good chance it could damage the motor.

If you wanted to go the cheaper route, there are ways to do that. Getting an adapter plate an a used T3/T4 turbo wouldnt cost you that much more. And if you plan on getting a Gen3 in the future and completely building it up with "brand name parts", why not buy it now and use it rather than spending $450 on a kit thats temporary, that money can be spent towards a kit that you would be buying in the future anyways.

To me buying a used turbo for 4-500$ is just as much of "taking a chance" as buying the SS kit. I would be really pissed if I spent that much money on a used turbo and it has the same problem or worse as the turbo im trying to replace. No thanks. My SS kit is doing fine. Just took the intake pipes off and felt the compressor wheel and everything seems to be as it was when I put it on....

i think we all got our own oppions about what we would do if our turbo goes bad ..

to me a new turbo, even if its "junk" is better than a ct26 with "minimal shaft play" ..

as for the manifold, if the ss manifold is junk .. the sell an adapter for $50 that hooks up to the stock manifold .. so nothing big there ..

and if i dont have the money, im not going to "put it on a credit card" and go into debt like the rest of the DA's in the U.S. ... no wonder theres trillions of $$$ of debt, everyone buys turbos .. haha .

Theres a ton of 0% interest cards for 1-2 years available almost all the time. I know if I got myself into a situation where I needed a turbo for my DD, I would not hesitate to put it on a 0% card, since it would probably be paid off months before its due.

But ay, you're right, everyones got opinions, but we all cant be right.

I am always interested in these threads. I am using a SSAC downpipe and have no complaints. A SSAC turbo is risky in my opinion.
Its like the generic soda... its supposed to be the same... but it just doesn't taste quite right.

I hope it works out great for you. Personally I feel if you could get 1+ year(s) out of this turbo w/ no damage to your car I think that would be a success.

What are you using to manage your engine btw?

manage my engine?

you mean the ecm ..

my whole car is stock except for a apexi intake, and a 3" downpipe .. but there will be another downpipe with the kit ..

i will use the kit and review it, along with mr2gq .. if you look on youtube theres a few people with ss / xs / ebay turbo kits that have had success ..

there is also a guy that has installed many of ssautochromes kits and goes threw what are the positives and negatives of there different products, in which he lists there t3/t4 turbos are good .. there manifolds may crack, but if you examine the product for flaws in the welding and fix any problems before installation then there shouldnt be any problems .. and the ss / xs 38mm tial style wastegates are good ..

it lists that their fuel pressure regulators are junk, the bov's are junk (mr2gq's doesnt work, but he might have a leak in his IC piping) .. and there were some other things he listed ..

i have seen alot of people who have said there products have gotten alot better from when they had turbo's falling apart since they were glued instead of welded ..

the reason i bought the kit is my lack of funds right now (im not getting a loan), and i'd rather have something that is new than a used that might go next week .. also i have not found anyone that has used the kit online and done a review on the MR2 KIT .. so i decided to give it a try and if it turns out good and it dyno's good, then maybe more of us will buy the kit as a slight upgrade or a turbo replacement ..

if not, then we can steer clear of the kit and not have arguments whether they are any good or not b/c we will have actually proof ..

I like your attitude towards the whole situation. I've seen some SSAC buyers get down right pissed and have paragraphs full of *** ***** ********** and death threats.

It wouldn't be worth it with insurance. Especially if you're sub 25. You may as well throw money out the window.

No 00+ vette gets 28 mpg. 26 maybe with only highway driving. Average I'd say 20-22.

The place I bought my 03 Impala from sells mostly Vettes. Beautiful ones too. Don't think they have one for 18-20k.... Not there at least. The owner told me they only buy/sell the best. You could probably get an 02 for 18-20k. I wouldn't buy it. It was probably anally raped from day 1.
