sounds about like that . his problem was the timing belt tensioner / pulleys .. but mine are new (well the tensioner was slightly used, and the pulley / belt kit was off ebay)

ill put it up on the lift tommorow at griffin and see if i can source my noise .. hopefully my motor isnt about to crap out .. might try changing the oil to synthetic (so it stays on stuff for cold starts, thats when it ticks / knocks the most)

but it pulls REALLY darn good .. hooked the boost sensor back up, coulda sworn it was reading 12psi (or max on the stock gauge) earlier (maybe i didnt put that wastegate back together right, ) .. ill check that too tomorrow

Make sure you get a wideband hooked up to it so you know your afr's so you don't blow it up now! If you are good throw it on the dyno!

ok .. drove it to college and put it up on the lift ..

found out my passenger rear lower balljoint is shot .. so thats probably my noise .. the wheel has alot of play in it b/c of the ball joint

changed the tranny fluid .. now it shifts a bit smoother and is a little quiter

as far as the motor .. i dont think anything is wrong internally .. its running REALLY darn good .. that one notch of timing made a huge difference

im looking up my options on the suspension (whether to replace the rear lower ball joints, or get a whole kit like i did on my 89 and replace all of them).. my front suspension clunks, something about the plates at the top of the struts (anyone know more about how to fix it) .. the teacher thinks i have to buy them from toyota and there seperate from the struts .. but i dont feel like taking it all apart just to find out ..

ok .. just hit 3700 miles on the kit when i went to the auto parts store and got me a new ball joint

im anxious to get it on .. been playing with the car since i fixed the timing and wastegate .. the top end is AMAZING now .. exhuast (or might be the wastegate) is a little loud .. but hell its a 4 banger

feels really damn strong when I get on it now ..

so whenever a dyno day comes up, im definitly getting some #'s .. im curious to see what kind of power its pushing on the 8 psi wastegate spring

then if I could maybe get a job sometime in the near future, I want to see what 12psi will do

..................................

me and mr2gq were talking earlier and both of our cars start to feel a little "loose" when were up in the higher rpms and under full boost (8 psi) .. does anyone else get that feeling ?

guess its since these cars dont weight that much .. its a whole different feeling from my camaro

i'd hate to see how 500hp feels if mine is only in the 200's ..

kudos dude!

i really don't think you should sell the car anyways. it is in really good shape and if you'd ever want one again, it would be extremely hard to find one in your condition. just sort out whatever bugs and enjoy it.

cheers.

yea, ive been thinking .. ive put a bunch of new stuff on my mr2 (distributor, timing belt, idler pulleys, filled up the a/c (blows really cold ), all new coolant hoses, waterpump, cleaned up the engine bay, new turbo, air filter, fuel filter, sensors, etc)

plus it is in pretty good condition (not perfect, but damn good) .. and the interior is pretty clean (just has a small scratch in the passenger door panel and a blue driver seat belt reviever)

if i sold my mr2, then i'd just be starting over with another hunk of crap .. and playing the "keep replacing parts untill the car is new again" game

thanks for testing, i just bought my xs kit the other week, need to clock my turbo, but its hitting the mani too, but not as bad as urs though. i do see noticeable curve on my flange, but not too bad.

i'm test fitting everything right now, putting it on a 2.2 hybrid stroker in the process of being built. i wanna see if i can get up too 400whp

got my kit off of ebay, paid 476 shipped..it came with a mbc too

yea, there was a tiny bit of a curve on my flanges .. but nothing bad enough to worry about .. if there far enough off, take it to a machine shop and get them to skim it flat

as for the turbo kit, thats not a bad deal .. especially if you got a mbc too ..

just heat up the manifold with a torch and "tap" it in with a ball peen hammer .. mr2gq didnt have the problem, but its not a big deal

and its just the six bolts to clock the housing .. just loosen them a little and clock it to the general position (you can fine tune it once the kit is in the car and your about to put on the hot intercooler pipe)

also .. its easiest if you assemble the turbo, manifold, and downpipe as one piece then drop it down in there and bolt it to the head (14mm nuts, i just used a wrench for 4 of them and a 14mm socket and extension for the bottom three on the passenger side)

then after you get it all tightened up, bolt on the external wastegate ..

other than that .. good luck, and if you have any questions just post em' up on here or send me a pm

are you doing anything for added support for the turbo ?..seem like it would help from all that weight on the manifold. the stock setup has good support.

i mite make bracket to support the turbo to the block.

btw, you can reuse the original turbo oil return line. just cut off the oil inlet line and weld or expoxy the hole and with a little bending and clocking of the turbo it will fit perfect like stock.

im not using any bracing .. just been hanging there .. the downpipe seems to support it some

dont know about the oil line .. thats where you need a small amount of imagination / fab skills .. my stock one was shot .. so i made a new one up with what came with the ssac kit and a new angle piece from the auto parts store to hook up to the oil pan

ok .. just hit 4000 miles on the kit

still working just fine .. but for some reason it seems to be running a little rich sometimes and if i rev it slowly to 2000 rpm i get a whistle in the engine by

maybe that crappy bov ??? .. im going to look at it later

and there might be a very slight misfire .. was thinking, would my injectors need cleaning or new seals putting on ??

i was going to say adrian, you may just want to try to switch to another puller type of BOV like the stock BPV.

there is that new type of BOV that just came out (dont remember the name though) or the SSQV by HKS. those wont leak or are least likely to leak.

car seems to be running really good when it stays quiet .. it kinda sounds like the bov leaking but I still get a really nice / loud PSHHHHHH when I let off the gas, then again most of the time I only get about 6psi, or it might be the wastegate .. not too worried about it right now, and ill find out when I make my screamer pipe (was going to do it last week, but was busy painting a truck)

been working on my 89 mr2 today, kinda want to get it running pretty soon .. its a pretty rare and nice damn car .. somewhat of a shame to leave in the corner of the garage collecting dust (especially since i got $12K tied up in it ).. so the 91 mr2 is just a daily driver right now, nothing really broken on it lately .. about 4300 miles on the kit right now and still works just fine

which way are you going to route your screamer pipe? towards the firewall and over the dp?
