probs with thermostat
i think i have a prob with my thermostat. seems after driving the mr2 for about 30 mins i get a bubbling noise coming from the area the coolant overflow is, in the engine bay. i have no loss of boost, i am usually driving on a hot day about 90-100 degrees outside (in vegas) , i wanted to know if i can fix this problem maybe someone else had it or might know whats wrong with my mr2 , first time i noticed this prob my mr2 took a piss and it was all coolant leaking from the middle of where the engine is . i dont seen any oil mixed with the coolant so im thinking its only a melted hose or maybe a loose one , i dont overheat my meter always stays at 1/4 , i havnt had any other leaks for this past week but i still get the bubbling . please help. thanks

It can be numerous things, start by bleeding the whole system and seeing what happens. If you saw a big leak from " where the middle of the engine is" thats something that needs to be fixed. Where did it leak from? Did you repair it? Did you refill the system? Did you fill it with the proper mix of water/antifreeze? Things we need to know. The stock gauge is hardly accurate, it wont move unless youre really overheating, so be careful not to keep driving it if you see any signs of an issue.

I recommend you go down to autozone and get a cooling system pressure test kit, its free, just as a loaner. Just ask them for it, you pay for it upfront and get your money back when you return it. Pressurize the system and confirm where the leak is and fix it!

a leak can cause air to get in the system which could then cause the bubbling. properly fill and bleed the system and see if it leaks.
is your overflow bottle damaged? what's the condition of your pressure cap? |

Yes and no. A bleed should always be part of a change. This is often times also called burping the system too. The idea is to get every last bubble out of the system and some cars can be notoriously hard to do

so should you burp the system like every other day till you know you have all the air out.. just to make sure or is there a way to get it all out

Once you fill the coolant back up, you need to burp it. It's the same idea as bleeding your clutch or your brakes, just slightly more time consuming. You want all the air out of the system.
And as far as burping it every other day - You don't fill your brakes and then just bleed them a little bit every other day till they're good, do you? Do it all at once. |

so just put it up on jacks and then burp it and then go back and put more water in and try it again until all that comes out is water??
