1991 JDM Build thread

Hey guys, im starting off my thread for my "new" 1991 JDM turbo

Heres my base: (Tough start eh)
KW coilovers, Enkei 17" rims, Lexani tires 215/45/17, 8mm spacers rear, 3mm front
MBC, K&N cold air intake, magnaflow exhaust
For now this should be mostly interior mods

First Couple projects will be tomorrow night, and Shift boot is under way.

Three projects in this picture:

Digital boost Gauge, Deck install, Shift boot install

Here is my dash with digital boost gauge already fitted in. (note the odometer is in km not miles) not bad eh?

Also tomorrow I will be replacing the turbo to intercooler hose because that blew out, and hopefully my knock sensor will come in from chicoraceworks (cleared customs friday im suprised it isnt in yet), As well as oil change and possibly trans fluid change.
Ordered hose from toyota on wednesday or thursday, told me 7-10 business days, arrived today (4 business days, im impressed)

Any advice, comments, suggestions, lets hear them.

So tonight I installed my new Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD touch screen deck.
Dash apart:

Deck:

Installed:

Just need to trim down the little frame that goes around the screen, it didnt quite fit.
On a side note, what do you have to do with the wiring of the parking brake and reverse wiring to watch a movie while driving? Anyone? (Not that I want to watch movies while im driving but if the passenger does.)

Looking good! Did you consider getting rid of the stock intercooler pipes and going with some aftermarket ones? Berk, Greddy, EMSpowered? What other plans do you have for her?

Yes I have, thats what I was going to do, but then my dad went ahead and ordered this from toyota without asking me. I wasn't too impressed, we'll see if this thing lasts. How much does a basic pipe run you?

Other plans: well. There will always be more to do, but in the near future i will be finishing the boost gauge, shift boot, then installing subs and better speakers as soon as possible (i have an alpine Mrp-m1000 and in total 3 10" subs) and i may get my 4 chan amp back from my car I sold and use that for 2 speakers and a sub. At some point I would also like to change the color or material of the dash pieces and probably some leather inserts for the door panels. As far as engine work goes, im going to wait until I begin apprenticeship so I can do it myself. There is nothing I hate more than people who brag about their car even though they didn't do any of it themselves.

Any good ideas on things to do?

Thats what I did with it. Although I think I just wired them into the ground wire on the wiring harness. Would that change anything? I know i should have grounded it to a bolt but it was dark and i just wanted to get it in for now.

I would get a new intercooler and downpipe, since you already have an intake and exhaust. You basic mods to get more airflow and better performance. If you are planning on upgrading your turbo, just use the stock dp until you get the new turbo and downpipe, in case it isn't the same bellmouth housing. Here is a link to the piping EMS has: MR2 Sidemount Intercooler Piping - $199.99 : EMSPowered, High Quality, Great Service, Low Prices. If you are going to upgrade the intercooler, just get the pipes at the same time.
Other mods could include some TRD parts...those are always nice! haha.

I probably wont do any engine work for a while yet, as I say, Im a rookie with all but the most basic things and I think I had better save up a little money and get a winter beater, I cant afford to trash this thing. Plus I want to just get it running properly before I do mods haha. But yes, somewhere down the line I see a bright future..

I see. What I should have said was whatever you decide to purchase and 'modify' make sure that you can use it down the line. No point in spending money twice!
