thats good then ..
im picking up a complete longblock with 8000 miles tommorow .. well by complete i mean assembled block, rebuilt head, arp studs, upgraded valve springs, timing belt, idlers, new waterpump, and the two metal pipes i need, oil cooler, new hose from hell, etc . im going to build this other motor over the summer when i get out of highschool and get a job and have some $$$ .. got the motor .. man i got alot of extra parts now .. new oil pump, water pump, sensors, spark plugs, hoses, all new internals (piston rings, bearings, pistons, etc) ..
im probably gonna built this other motor over the summer for around 350hp or so, and im gonna get another turbo kit later on this year that will support that much ... but for now im gonna run my stock motor and the ssac turbo kit and if it blows up then i got a backup .. ![]() my new o ring for the waterpump comes friday, so then i can put the new waterpump / thermostat housing, and them two metal pipes on and hopefully get it running this time .. ok .. went and got some pics of what went wrong and the motor i just picked up .. here is where the leak is on my motor, i think something is warped or cracked b/c i just put on a new gasket and o ring .. (note, i just took everything back off the motor from the previous pics i posted) ![]() and here is what im going to put on .. ![]() here's some more pics, im tempted to build it when i get some money and keep it for when my current motor gives out .. might use my block though since this block has just over 200,000 miles, but looks really good inside .. ![]() ![]() oh, also the oil pump is new(ish) too .. how hard would it be to change whilst i got all the timing stuff back off b/c im suspect of my oil pumps condition since my oil pressure sensor was unplugged when i bought the car .. i would have to drop the pan right? Before you go building up that block check ALL clearances and specs! Just because it looks good doesn't mean it is! The colour of the top half cam bearing holder thingy looks very suspect! Kinda like overheating, maybe?

mr2magic - yea when i build it later i will check everything and take it to a machine shop ..
as for overheating, thats why i got it for cheap .. he thought the block was cracked or something, but when we took the head off it looks like the gasket was leaking b/c the pistons have a thin layer of oil / antifreeze sludge on them |

you do know that 3sgte heads are aluminium and they tend to go 'soft' when overheated.... rendering the head useless

oh .. well ill take it to my machine shop guy when i get around to rebuilding it ..
i might just use the internals, and valve springs .. then put them in my block and head .. either way .. even if i just use the water pump / oil pump / hoses / and sensors and throw everything else away then i still got a heck of a deal considering i got quoted $200 for a waterpump the other day at toyota |

my friends friend said his friend said his cousins dads friend said that he once knew a guy that knew another guy who said that stuff is crap yo i can be negative too .. but thats not the point, the point is to find out if the ssac MR2 (not honda) turbo kit is any good .. so far there has only been two people on this thread say they are running the kit (or t3/t4 turbo), and both say it works just fine .. i will be a third person to use the kit when i get a new waterpump put on tommorow |

I have personal experience, so I think their stuff is crap. If they can't do a simple header/b-pipe right, couldn't imagine a turbo kit
. My header/b pipe leaked like no tomorrow because of the **** gaskets and their bad align job(b pipe was a bitch to mate to the header). Looked purty though. |

SSAC makes good ****, but any time you buy a manifold/header from anywhere, you should have it decked to make sure it works.
Also, welds crack, get used to it with aftermarket parts... Don't sell your car, just fix the leak and have a little fun.....then sell it ![]() |

![]() i checked the flanges on the manifold, dp, etc ... they where all really damn closed to flat .. i think one of them was barely warped a little .. nothing that making sure the bolts are tight wouldnt take care off if the welds crack, then ill roll out the mig or tig and fix it or there is one company that makes a cast t3 manifold for the 3sgte for $230 or something, saw it on another thread a couple days ago .. as for selling the car, i blow it up and rebuild it twice before selling it ... that turbo 4cyl is addictive .. |

The dp/exhaust flanges shouldn't be warped at all unless they were welding with way too much heat......although I have seen it done before
![]() Seriously though, my drift car has a turbo manifold from them and it hasn't ever had any problems. I just made a support for the turbo when I put it together last time so it's never breaking now, but it was more intended for the down pipe than the manifold to begin with. My car has had 5 different engines in it now ![]() |

yea .. after putting all the stuff on three times now a ratcheting 14mm wrench would of been amazing
![]() got it all running and drove it down the street .. seems like they gave me a 3psi wastegate spring, but oh that 3psi is one kick in the ass .. spools up in first gear and kicks you in the seat and the external wastegate is awsome..the problems - i got a small oil leak where my oil supply line goes into the block .. theres about 4 adapters there so i might be making a trip to summit to see if i can reduce that # for some reason my speedo has decided to not work, i guess it got jealous of the new turbo .. anyone know why this would happen .. i remember it bouncing at low speeds before, and i have taken the cable off the tranny and spun it with a drill .. nothing .. so im guessing my cable is toast (but i cant pull it out) or it has popped out of the back of the gauge cluster (im hoping )the good - NO MORE WATER LEAKS .. so, as soon as i get the oil leak fixed, speedo fixed, and finish topping up the coolant ... then im gonna need a boost controller because 3 psi isnt gonna satisfy me for long ![]() |
