not at all .. mine has an external wastegate .. a 5 bolt flange on the exhuast side .. and has a flat spot on the compressor housing that lists the turbo info (and it isnt as shiny as that one you posted)

look on Turbo Kits, Turbo Manifolds, Import Performance Products, SSAutochrome Inc. and go look at the kit .. or go back a couple pages on here and i posted a bunch of pictures up of it

does ss autochrome use ebay turbos or turbos from the same factory as the ebay turbos. Check the second turbo down on ss autochrome turbo site. It looks like the ebay one that i had up. Turbos / Turbo Chargers Performance Racing Products for International Sales from SSAutochrome Inc.

yea .. thats not the one we got .. as for the ebay turbo's, yes probably all of them come from the same factory (they all atleast come from china)

mine is the 9th one down .. the $179 t3/t4 to4e turbo ..

i got over 300 miles on mine now and still running good .. im going to check the shaft play when the motor is cool this weekend .. ive been running it all day today (about 150 miles) and it spools / and feels really good still ..

i hear a sound that sounds like the compressor wheel hitting the housing .. but i think it has nothing to do with the turbo since it got louder when i went over a speed bump at college .. i suspect its my lower timing cover on the rear side (its not bolted down) or something else that is loose .. its like a high pitched rattling / scraping sound .. but only happens at low speeds or rough terrain / low speeds

also .. anyone know what would cause my timing belt to ride the outside edge of the gears .. thats my only problem right now ..

my oil level has been the same ever since i fixed the oil leak .. and the water temp has never gone above the middle .. kinda stays just below the middle when cruising ..

ive thrashed on it probably 5 or 6 times so far and its pretty damn fast .. not crazy fast .. but a hell of alot better than the stock turbo at 7 psi ..

i gotta take pics and get them up .. i havent seen the camera in a couple days, but when i find it there will be more pics .. the "stainless steel" has turned a orange / purple / redish color on the header (my friends civic did the same thing) .. and hasnt cracked yet

not yet .. went hiking this weekend .. just got back about 30 mins ago .. but ill go out to my shop later and check on it ..

i think (hope ) that its just something loose .. probably the lower timing cover or something with the timing belt b/c the belt likes to ride the outside edge of the gears and stuff ..

ok, i gotta problem .. but heres the story ..

i went out there a minute ago and checked the cold IC pipe .. it was clean no oil or metal

checked the turbo shaft play .. slight puddle of oil sitting in the compressor housing .. completely normal according to alot of websites .. and the shaft play was exactly the same as when i installed the turbo

then checked the oil .. same as when i filled it up after fixing the oil leak 117 miles ago ..

then the coolant .. i was on a slight hill so it gushed out .. but it was full ..

then i took it around the block a few times and got it warmed up .. then accelerated and got a violent "bucking" when the boost came in .. so i let off and kept driving .. then accelerated and she boosted fine for the 5 or 6 other times .. not to redline but to around 5 - 6K rpm ..

then .. got it home .. and tried to find that rattling noise while i let it idle in the driveway .. opened the engine lid, nothing, looked underneath .. i could hear it kinda, but couldnt pin point it ..

then look at the exhaust and it looks clean ..

awsome .. it looked all good ..

....................

but then all of a sudden .. i saw a blue -ish white clouds coming out of the exhuast ..

are my turbo oil seals giving out?

should i leave it and throw in some new seals ($30) .. or put a oil restrictor on it .. i got a 4an line going to it right now ..

theres about 300 miles on the turbo ..

any ideas what i should do or check to make sure its the turbo oil seals .. ive seen people online say the t3/t4 turbo from ssac has blown the seals fast and they have just put new seals in it and it was good ..

i think the -4 lines are to big for the ss autochrome turbos. Couple of my friends has the ebay turbo and they all ran -3 line and one did fine for over a year with the oil restrictor until he sold it to another guy and he blew the seals a month later. And my other two friends turbo lasted about 7-9 months with -3 and no restrictor.

well i went out there last night and took off the cold IC pipe again .. theres some pieces of metal in there with a little oil ..

so later im gonna pull it all apart and see if i can rebuild it and put on a 3an line ..

i think it was the oil pressure that screwed it b/c i was running a 4an line

or i might get another ebay t3/t4 .. theres one for $240 w/ a 90 day warranty and put on a 3an line / restrictor

Excessive oil pressure can cause leakage past the seals. It can't cause metal to metal contact between the compressor and compressor housing. That is caused by an unbalanced/poorly balanced turbo, or one that was not manufactured to exacting tolerances.

91' convertible camaro z28 (3K on built 305tpi) - $5500
91' Mr2 Turbo (4K on new motor, needs new t3/t4 or ct26 turbo) - $6500
89' Mr2 Supercharged ... (maybe a mile on new motor, new paint, etc) - $8000

all prices are obo .. let me know if you are interested .. theres extra motors for both mr2's and alot of extra parts for each ..

as for the ssac kit .. the headers / downpipe are allright, the turbo is **** .. so for around $1000 you could get a t3/t4 turbo from koracing and the header / downpipe from ssac ..

I'm sorry to hear that. If you had purchased a CT20b or CT27, your 91T probably would have been the reliable commuter that you need. (assuming that the rebuild on the engine is good)

I don't think you can conclude that "the headers and down pipe are allright" after a couple of hundred miles of testing.

care to take pictures of the damage to document it, and potentially save future people from being seduced by the impossibly low price?

i know my 91 mr2 would be reliable .. i have put over 2000 miles on it since new, just having problems with the turbo ..

i got a few options right now, so im thinking it over .. i will take pictures if / when i take it all apart .. i havent checked the shaft play since last night, it just started shooting metal for about 30 seconds ..

i found a couple people with t3/t4's for cheap so im waiting on them to email me (hopefully there name brand) and my friend claims to have a garret t3 (/t4) lying around but he knows $hit about cars .. so im not relying on him untill i see it in person

im gonna look at the different options, but a new car with a warranty is top of the list right now since i wont have to fix it

EDIT-

ok i checked the turbo shaft play .. its exactly the same as before it started burning oil except for a little in / out which it didnt have before .. so im guessing its all good ..

im going to get a restrictor tonight since im running a 4an line down to a 3an .. then if that doesnt stop the oil burning then im gonna pull it out and put a rebuild kit / new seals in it $30 .. it still boosts perfectly .. so it should be allright ..

i guess i got kinda pissed when i saw the metal but it turns out to be me forcing the cold IC pipe on and it scrapes some of the intercooler metall off ..

im putting the "for sale" part on hold untill i see if i can fix it first .. and i take back about the turbo is **** .. it is my fault for running a 4an line, it says on the ssac ebay ads that you have to run a restrictor and alot of honda forums have used the ssac turbo and blown them without a restrictor ..

so the metal shavings werent from the turbo. Hope not. Does the car smoke at all. Hopefully the seals didnt go out yet. Give us an update when you go to the -3an and restrictor.

well it started to blow blue smoke (oil) sunday night .. got a 3an hose last night and i gotta go get one more adapter and i should have it on at lunch time if i got time ..

hopefully that should restrict the oil from blowing past the seals .. if not then ill have to rebuild it ..

the metal was from the cold pipe scraping the intercooler outlet when i was putting it on ...

im hoping ..

at first i saw blue smoke coming out of the exhuast and some metal in the IC pipe .. so i got pretty pissed b/c i dont have another $200 for another turbo that would pop in 300 miles ..

but turns out that it is just leaking a little oil, so i got a 3an line to put on later today .. ill see if that stops the leak, or ill get new seals for $30 and rebuild it ..

theres barely any shaft play at all, just a little in / out for the oil seals
