A poll like this will almost always see the less expensive upgrade win over the more expensive upgrade, even if the more expensive one is significantly better. (in this case, it is)
Do a similar poll for how many people are running the stock ECU vs. a ROM tune, or a ROM tune vs. an EMS. You will get similar results. As others have pointed out, the EBC is easier to change on the fly, for instance, you can have a race gas and pump gas setting. Most of them have some type of overboost protection, which is important if you have disabled fuel cut. Many of them can display boost level, which eliminates the need for a separate boost gauge. One thing that has not been addressed is that it is much easier and faster to dial in the boost level, as you can adjust right from the cockpit, without having to find a safe place to pull over, and lean into the engine bay to adjust the MBC. I usually have the car's owner drive, while I fiddle with the boost settings from the passenger seat. I can usually get the boost level set on a Blitz DSBC in 10 or 15 minutes of driving, depending on how many different settings the owner wants. That also includes adjusting the gain for optimal spool, and setting up the overboost protection. That leads me to my final point, which is that a good EBC will get you every last bit of spool your setup is capable of, because it can keep the wastegate fully closed longer than an MBC, where the valve cracks several PSI before the set point, which has the turbo spooling the last several PSI with the wastegate partially open. As you can imagine, this significantly delays when the turbo reaches full boost. Ken |

Yeah, Im with Ken on this.
To those of you who have always used an MBC and say "its good enough, etc blah blah" (no disrespect intended with the blah blah), and never used an EBC, you would have no idea. Going from a ball/spring MBC to a good EBC is night and day. EBCs are well worth their money IMO. MBCs are koo, they work, but if you want absolute control, get an EBC. Youll feel the difference if you set it up properly. |

I understand the thoughts about the EBC losing compared to the cheap MBC. On the other hand I always ask myself if the very expensive EBC is really worth it's money. I mean what are you really getting that is worth $600,-?? Nothing on those EBC is really that expensive to produce is it? I reckon you could probably produce the thing for half the price and still make a killing. But hey that's just me
If a had the cash I'd go EBC! |

im using a EBC AEM true boost. it might be a little expensive(around 260 i think) but i love it, being able to run at stock boost and just hit a button to jump to 16psi is sweet.

yep and if you get the AEM Wideband Air/Fuel you have a digital read out that is much more accurate than a manual air/fuel.
plus another add on to ralphers post. the AEM has a bunch of settings you can change like: -being able to set a warning for your boost. say u set it at 17psi. if you hit 17 psi the gauge will flash and warn you of over boosting -another is, the gauge is not just digital read out. it has gauge marks around the outside like a manual boost controller and a light that goes around the outside of the gauge( just like the needle would on a manual) and you can set the peak mark to whatever you like. there are more settings im forgetting but fact is if you learn how to use the AEM true boost you will love it and be very happy. ![]() |

I'm going with the AEM, I know a racing shop that sell it for $200 here in PR.
Also I was wondering...In a stock CT26 what is the highest but safe boost??? ![]() I'm using the ct26 for now...filling the pot for a GT30R ![]() |

Ive always used MBC's and never had a problem... But I love how easy it is with a EBC to switch from low boost to high boost from inside the car from a press of a button

ebc here, I usually commute on stock boost, as it has enough power and ensures reliability. When I got out on the weekends, I just turn it on 13psi and have some fun with that.
Although that is kind of dumb, the real advatage of ebc's come with a high horsepower setup. If you can't get traction, simply turn the boost down a few psi with the twist of a knob inside the car. I have the greddy ebc and I like it. |

I've had both a greddy profec B-II and am now running an MBC. The only thing I miss about that ebc is on-the-fly adjustment from inside the cabin. But once I got my MBC set, it is set-it and forget-it...
