Alternator Belt

Hey everybody, my alternator belt is squealing a little bit when I start it, and it's driving me nuts. I was wondering if there's anything in particular I need to know before diving into the job of tightening the belt. Is it any different than tightening the belt on any other car? Is there anything I need to remove in order to get to the alternator belt? Sorry for the noob questions, I'm new to the GEN3 Thanks- Mr. Anderson

Nope.. pretty much the same as any other car out there. Maybe the belt is worn out and needs replacing. I would rather than just tightening it.

Thanks bro. I looked under the car and saw that the belt was very hard to get to. Maybe it helps if I mention that my car used to be an N/A...I have a GEN3 swap. It just looks like a pain. Also, if I replace the belt altogether, would a 93 turbo alternator belt work fine?

Ok, I don't think the alternator belt needs replacement...I jacked the car up and took a look and the belt looks fine. But it needs to be tightened. I found the adjustment bolt, and then there's one next to it (looking from underneath the back of the car). Can anybody give me a step-by-step instruction on how to do this? I feel like a fool asking how to tighten a freakin alternator belt...but alas, I refuse to do anything to my GEN3 unless I KNOW how to do it Any help?

I have the 3S-GE and I can only assume its the same.
Just remember, if the belt goes you will be wishing you spent the $20 to change the belt but anyway.
There is a large pivot bolt that the alternator pivots on. You get to this from underneath the car. Make sure you loosen this off first.
From up top (On the non turbo atleast) next to the alternator is a long threaded bolt. Screwing it clockwise should tighten your belt right up.
Re tighten the pivot bolt and you should be done.
Sorry that its a really simple explanation. But its quite a simple and apart from the pivot bolt an intuitive job.

Thanks bro. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but what will happen to the car if the alternator belt breaks?

Well you will use the battery to supply spark to the engine, power steering, lights etc etc.
The battery will run flat so you will be stranded and wont be able to be jump started. You will have to be towed, replace the belt then be jump started at the side of the road or put in a brand new battery and make that go flat on the way home.
