205 Gt4 3sgte
New to turbo engines, so forgive me if this is a silly question.
Aside from the obviously different exhaust, tranny setup, is the gen3 3sgte gt4 engine a viable option for an mr2? They seems to be so much cheaper to buy a gt4 clip than an mr2 clip. |

if you are just replacing a blown motor, then yes, cause you can swap all your accessories onto it.
for a swap i would stick with a mr2 clip. the alternator is on the front of the motor in a celica, the waternecks and wiring harness is diffrent as well. |

Your not going to get around it buddy. A celica engine is a celica engine. If you want it in a MR2 it doesnt matter if its a TURBO OR A BEAMS, SAME OLD all CONVERSION BITS Just that the turbo is easier to find but most likely thrashed and in poorer condition and more parts to replace.

^ cool no problem. Just that putting a Celica engine in the MR2 is a no no . Your in Victoria.
Your governed by VIC ROADS. Its illegal to put another cars engine in unless you have a full registered engineers report. Inother words not allowed to be on the road or start saving up for your $3000 plus EPA test ![]() |

like i said, if you already are a turbo car, using a celica engine as a replacement is just fine, its the same motor, just the external accessories are diffrent.
i definetly would not recommend using a celica engine for a swap into a N/A car. the extra money you will end up spending collecting all the needed mr2 parts to complete the swap will make up the diffrence between buying the celica or mr2 clip. |

*Sigh* I know I know...I just give up.
It would be so much easier if they would just let us import mr2's again. Government throws so many ridiculous laws, taxes and duties on us its damn expensive to do anything that should be pretty straightforward to do. "If we're not making money off it then we'll find a way to make money on it" should be their motto. I guess on the bright side it's encouraging to know that an mr2 in good condition will be worth something here one day. Last edited by RedAuzBathurst94; 05-26-2009 at 02:34 PM.. |
