Coil Woes.

While driving on the expressway on my way to lord knows, my car was running fine when all of a sudden for lack of a better word it just died, coasting to a stop. It has rained the last 9 days here in Florida so I assumed it was water in the distributor.

Fast forward to today. Distributor removed there was a tad bit of water in it which I have since dried out and still nothing. So to the best of my knowledge (which is limited when it comes to the ignition system) my plugs are receiving no spark, tracing farther back the cap and rotor while worn and in need of replacing were fine at the time and I still feel are enough to get it to at least start. Tracing farther back to the coil I hooked up the number 1 (long) spark plug wire to the coil and a spark plug. Positioned it in the rear window and proceeded to try to see a spark (It was 2am and I was working on it alone). Is this a proper test? If not what can I do to test it. If it isn't working can they be repaired? Or should I start looking for a new/used Gen 3 Coil. What aftermarket coils (if any) would work on my Gen 3 engine. Thanks in advanced for your help!

i had a similar problem i replaced both the coil and the ignitor unit above it and it fixed it
i cant be sure which part was the problem but i would try to get a spare coil off someone just to check whether its the coil or ignitor

Thanks for the reply! How much was both of those? Does anyone have any idea for aftermarket ignition components if it's nearly the same price?

are either of the parts the same as the 5sfe parts? I think I have those laying around from the swap. Long stretch but alas might as well ask.
