Gen3 swap DONE!!
|
I've got the same problem... If you find out an answer to fix it let me know. I'd love to just go get the Gen3 stuff I just don't wanna fork over that kinda money and it not fix anything. I've got a 93 n/a ignitor and 91 n/a coil. Lol It works great other than at about 5K+

Are the gen 3 still a seperate coil? I thought they might be coil packs.

does anybody knkow where i can get a gen 3 igniter and coil? and the harness? to my knowledge, i know this WILL fix the rev limit of 6k, but i'm not sure if the loss of top end is related.
the car is running rich too, i just changed the o2. But i have berk DP and exhaust and some kinda ****** intake. |

here's a little update guys. I've put in the gen III igniter and coil. the car revs past 6k now. the power seems a bit better but its still not feeling that good. the car feels like its struggling to climb rpms after 5k. the igniter and coil also didn't fix the running pig rich problem.
my boost gauge is coming in soon, so i will have to see what kinds of boost the car is making. maybe then i can diagnose it better? |

ALl gen3's run pig rich. The gen2's w/ the gen3 electronics seem to have an issue where it likes to fall on its face after about 5.5-6k RPM. It'll rev past there, but it feels...restricted I guess you could say. Almost like having a slightly clogged cat if you've ever driven a car like that before. To my knowledge no one has ever completely got rid of it.
If you want to get rid of it, get a PFC. This is plug and play with your new setup now that you've done theg en3 swap . Even the stock map will perform LOTS better than the stock gen3 ecu. |

Power- FC, made by Apexi. It's a plug-and-play stand-alone ECU, and is discontinued for the mr2. I believe Berk still has some for sale though.

why is it that the stock ecu sucks balls for a pretty much stock engine? my car just has the basic bolt ons right now.
will a safc tune with a wideband 02 work? the main reason i don't wanna go standalone is cause i'm not looking for huge hp numbers. i just want this car running good. |
