gen3 catch can
Just wondering where does the 3rd hose go to? does it just drain to the ground or is there a fitting on the block to return it back to the engine?

I would definitely keep it and let it drain back to the block drain...plus that port is an extra port for balancing crankcase pressures. It doesn't hurt anything to keep the oil in the system.
Mine works very well on the stock gen3 setup...on my road racing car. Therefore, there really is no reason to remove it to put a new one in. Patrick |

Been thru this. Why eliminate it ? for another can ?
The drain goes back to the head....... Inside the unit there is a baffle that allows air to move freely the oil ( mist , if any ) hits the baffle , goes thru an internal strainer and goes back to the head...... Dont know your laws there but as OEM its a totally closed system . Aftermarket catch cans are not road legal. All a cop has to do is see a shinny aluminium can with hoses and its off the road . Keep it stock, in actual fact why dont you just get a new OEM unit. Most likely if you havent changed it its full of sludge |

Sorry about that
Yep it's in the head. I should have consulted my rebuild pictures before posting.
It's the hose fitting near cylinder 4 on the intake side of the head. Pictured. |

It does go back into the head, by cylinder 4 near the the intake. I have an aftermarket catch can, and I did block off that port. My new one has baffels and a viewing window, so I can see if it gets filled with oil. It has a drain port on the bottom for just such an occasion.
My entire motor is shiny so the aftermarket catch can fits right in. The police in these parts do not inspect your motors and look for aftermarket stuff. I don't know how they would know what was stock and what is aftermarket. They can't possibly know what each motor is supposed to look like. Anyway, my motor is so far from stock, you would be hard pressed to find something that does look original in there. We only get emmision tested every-other-year and thats just a tale pipe test. |

Wow
How can one post pictures of the head and the fitting and STILL be called out as being wrong?!
It is definitely IN THE HEAD!! Look at the picture, look at cylinder #4 (labeled on head). Look at the fitting. That's the drain from the factory gen 3 catch can in the factory head. Patrick |

Here is a picture of my GEN3 when it arrived after we took off the intake manifold or valve cover.
You can see the port for the third hose just under the left intake manifold bolt under cylinder 4. ![]() |

so back to the question, how would one tap the head or block to get the oil to drain to?
I'm trying to rig a gen2 with a gen3 catch can |

OH, I thought you had a GEN3 and didn't know where to plug in the third hose. Why would you want to tap into the head or block? You would have to worry about drilling too far, or getting shavings in the internals, unless you plan on taking it apart. If you just want the oil to drain back into the motor, why not drop it into the oil pan, much easier to take off and attach a fitting.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the point in a catch can?
